This is soo beautiful I feel a touch of rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky in it. The man was an absolute genius. Its not only jazz its amazingly romanticised too. I absolutely love it. Thank you very much.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

The opening sounds like Rachmaninoff Elegie that got jazzified

There is a definite Rachmaninoff feel at the beginning, for sure.

Kapustin music sounds much better to me with an orchestra accompaniment as it has more texture. His notation arrangement is incomparable to other jazz composers with those broken chords and atonal harmony plus the boastful fast jazz rhythm! Melody themes are nice to listen to like a breath of fresh air...

still so sad. its so wild how he's gained pretty widespread popularity within the classical music community just 1 or 2 years after his death. he definitely didnt ever want fame or fortune though. he was an extremely, EXTREMELY introverted man. wish that we could know more about him as a person. there's actually a book released a year or two ago with all the letters he wrote translated into english. i havent got it though yet.

Can someone explain what the original is compared to this arrangement by Abyazov? Where can I find the original, and is it for solo piano or what?

This is a performance of the original; the score on screen is that of an arrangement for piano, string orchestra, and percussion.

A true modernist composer! It is hard to believe that Kapustin was not American, but Russian! Again, if he was in America, he would have gotten more recognition! In Russia, he was tolerated, not appreciated for the modernist he was. Jazz is America and Kapustin buried himself in his anti-jazz country! What a shame, but he knew all of this and lived with it? Why . . . . .?
@Nooticus
@Nooticus Жыл бұрын
This comment is actually disgusting and so disrespectful. Your American Exceptionalism is showing… Kapustin didn’t ‘bury himself’ in anything. He was a very shy and nervous man who refused to fly on a plane and did not like to travel much at all. Educate yourself by reading the book ‘Conversations with Nikolai Kapustin’ by Yana Tyulkova, now fully translated into English. Comments like this make me rage so much.
