Finn -- this is a great interview. Wonderful questions, and more importantly you let Kara speak and answer your questions.

A story that was thankfully told by others as well. I am very happy for those directly impacted to get some validation for their courage to come forward. I first heard the stories on Rich Roll’s pod, and then read the book. I have found it difficult to support Nike since, which maybe easier because they aren’t yet as big on the ultra side. It is also tough to see they haven’t evolved as much as they should have at Nike, but hopefully it will get better. Thanks for helping continue to tell her story.

Kara, I hope you know in your heart what you’ve done now and into the future for Women and Athletes in general. Fearless and bravery don’t begin to describe it….thank you. Finn, your amazing, always so thoughtful questions- whether planned or unplanned.

Totally. Nike can make a person non-existent if they want. Very scary. Go Kara. Mary Cain may have never come forward. Mary Cain is suing the pants off Nike right now. I hope she prevails in that in whatever way a person can.

Excellent interview...no surprise there! Kara's work in bringing light to the unfairness placed on women athletes, but never getting to experience the fruits of that makes me think of the interaction between Sam and Frodo at the end of The Lord of the Rings (I'm a nerd, what can I say..): 'But,' said Sam, and tears started in his eyes, 'I thought you were going to enjoy the Shire, too, for years and years, after all you have done.' 'So I thought too, once. But I have been too deeply hurt, Sam. I tried to save the Shire, and it has been saved, but not for me. It must often be so, Sam, when things are in danger: some one has to give them up, lose them, so that others may keep them. But you are my heir: all that I had and might have had I leave to you.'

Kara is awesome. I was always a believer in her and never saw her as a "scorned woman". Salazar has always been a dirt bag.

This would have been far better if I had any idea of what the big historical dramas were… a brief intro would have helped.

Sorry about that, Phil! If you check out the podcast version, we have the pre-amble / context included in the intro. Unfortunately, we don't add those to the KZbin versions (except for what you see in the description section), but perhaps we should! I'll consider for future episodes. Appreciate ya watching and weighing in with the constructive feedback! Cheers, Finn

I had no idea about any of this. This and Armstrong at the same time frame. Nike sus , wonder what else they covered up.

Be careful what you wish for...Transparency on personal data is one step away from social scoring. The question is more like why not allow anything and wait until people realized how absurd sports competition in its core actually is. Just to get faster for the sake of getting faster, is the most cheating attitude one can have inside society. It fakes human progress but does not benefit anything or anyone a part form that short term ego boost to which athletes get addicted to, and of course sports industry sales. So for me its more like "yeah, do or take what ever you want, I will not care about your best time, because it has 0 relevance for the world or the people"

What is social scoring? I've never heard of it before, and I'm curious to learn more!

@@runsingletrack it basically provides a concept of measuring "good" or "bad" citizenship, using all kind of personal data such as your fitness level, medical data, credit score, age, online consumption habits, et cetera. So asking for "transparency" of all data related to your sport habits might backfire and other entities may reject completely unrelated things, only because your scoring in sports is low. You don't want that for your kids, believe me.
