I started to be suspicious of Alice's humanity when she continuously refused to eat like at Todd's house and the chocolate bar that Kara stole. But to me the dead giveaway was when Todd filed a report saying Kara had assaulted him but never mentioned an android stealing his daughter away from him. After this point i had little to no doubt

Yeah, you really have to try to make Alice hate you for this to happen. Basically everyone isn't stupid enough to end up making their relationship with Alice this bad on their first try. Most of the things Kara says and does ends up being a positive for their relationship, or has no impact on it, like getting Luther killed, except for three different instances.

I lost interest in Kara's story from when I found out Alice was an android and my problem with Alice was exactly that. Androids don't age they don't grow Alice may be a deviant but her programming still makes her act like a child. Alice will always be dependent on Kara she will never grow up. It was a big mistake making Alice an android she should of been human.

The plot twist ruined the build up of Kara and Alice possibly having an android mother human daughter relationship, which would have provided a hope to bridge the divide between humans and androids. And just after Kara went to Markus for help he asked her why was she helping a human child when everyone else hates their kind. I'm not saying that Alice deserves less love from Kara now, only that it's bad writing on the developers' part. Also, would a juvenile android like Alice remain a child forever? Given their possibility of becoming deviant, would android kids ever mature emotionally and psychologically? Would they have to upgrade their bodies to fit their proper "age" as time passes? And what about the other YK500 girl on the ship? Is anyone looking after her or is she all by herself? Did she survive the humans' attack on Jericho?

I played this game 2 days ago trying to earn the "I'll be back trophy" but I messed it up so I'll have kill connor all over again, anyways during my playthrough as kara I was curious, what happens if I maintain distant with Alice. I was shocked to find out that I had the option to abandon Luther and Alice so I did and got a different ending for Kara. I love the many outcomes of this game!

How can you make Alice to leave? I tried to be distant to her in previous chapters but in "The pirates cove" the relationship automatically goes up from distant to neutral to warm by speaking to her in front of that poster and after telling her a good night story. When I choose "distant" in "Crossroads" the relationship goes down to distant but Alice will still sit next to Kara and doesn't leave. Is there anything else you have to do?

Ironically this concept stumped half of the fanbase. Of course, I loved the plot twist as it made me admit that I simply don't care about Alice's background and appreciate her for who she is; A kind, loving daughter.

Because Alice is programmed to love her parental figure (Todd then Kara). Kara and the player may feel betrayed that she isn't human and thus we're unsure if she really loves Kara or not. (how could she know that Alice is a deviant ?) It also makes all of Kara's problems (taking care of Alice and going through the trouble of finding her a warm place, new clothes and meals) irrevelant since she's an android. Alice is the reason as why she leaves or kills Todd. Humans can't be replaced and seeing the fear in a little girl's eyes are why she decided to go against her orders. She never became deviant because of fear or any emotions that directly relates to her so Alice is a major part of her own idea of free will. In the end, Kara is facing the same problem as the humans : can she accept androids for what they are and that they are alive and able to make their own choices ?

When you play these kind of cinematic games, you are supposed to feel the same things as your character. So, while for Kara it was something unnexpected, for the player it was something logical and maybe obvious, which ruined the plot twist

Alice being human kind of takes some of the air out of one of the themes of the story. All 3 main characters had at one point or another, a long-lasting relationship with a human who heavily influenced their lives. In all these situations it was arguably that relationship that allowed the androids the opportunity to awaken and break through their programming. In my opinion it sort of reinforced this idea that the androids learn how to be "human" from humans but Kara and by extension Alice never really had that relationship with any humans. They were awakened through trauma alone and weren't shown any sign of human compassion until late into the game when you'd argue that they were already well into being "awakened". Alice being human also helped give more solid reasoning for why Kara was able to regain her memory after being reset. Alice being an android weakens the throughline of the narrative and removes the parallels one could draw between her and the other two controllable characters and honestly her story was already pretty weak in my opinion. Alice being a human really removes any sense of tension from subsequent playthroughs as she was essentially faking those human needs. It also comes off as manipulative on both the character's and writer's part.

Kara is a house keeping and baby sitting android programmed to care and love, Alice is a children android programmed to be children, most people don't realized that their relationship is actually fake run by program for eternity until Kara finally accepted the reality. At that point Kara is becoming human breaking away from her program. leaving Alice is actually a good thing...

@@EKhan89 Yes, I also prefer Alice being a real human, it would give a more complex story arc especially in Jericho where she's the only human and child surrounded by rebellious androids. But after thinking about it for some time, the purpose of the twist is to make us question about sincerity. We know that Kara is a house keeping and baby sitting android, programmed to care and love. She become a deviant after disobeying order. Now why she disobey order? Because it conflict with her program to care for the child, Alice. She sense Alice is in danger, she must protect Alice. Along the way, she actually know Alice is an android, but she keep being in denial. This is the trick and is successfully done, many people get fooled by this fake love. Alice is programmed to be a children who need caring and attention, she's also programmed to be naive and innocent. Kara play along with mom daughter role-play exactly like what she's being programmed. So, if the player continue this mom-daughter relationship arc, the player is an android :)) Human deal with reality of life, if Kara realized that her love for Alice isn't real, that make her human. The game manipulate our emotions and in funny way, all the characters we play are androids, we don't supposed to get emotional toward these characters, the game clearly hint to us that androids don't feel pain, everything about them are just software malfunction clearly shown by indicator. but if we don't have any emotion with them, then what are we?

I'm impressed the game actually gives the freedom to choose. It totally makes sense Kara would feel betrayed (in a sense) and choose to make her own way in the world. At this point she's ready to completely step out of the role the humans designed her for and be herself. It is a hard decision...but I am glad they gave her the option to make it.

Now the real question is, is Alice even a deviant? Because all of her childish behaviours are exactly what she is programmed to be. Making her an android kinda ruined the bridge between humans and androids where we were supposed to believe that humans were not born to hate/be inconsiderate to androids. Alice the android will never grow up, and there will be absolutely no development for their relationship in the long run.
