Best Venice day trip! We decided to drive to the Dolomites for a day in the mountains of Italy since we had never been before. It turned into a huge adventure for multiple reasons. If you go, don't bring only 1 bottle of water for 4 people, maybe don't take the sketchy trail we took at the end, andddd don't leave any valuables at the very top ;)

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this KZbin channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Sun Corona flip flops on a mountainside didn’t look dangerous to you, 1. I didn’t say it was dangerous 2. I was making a light hearted observation. The dynamic duo are travelling constantly and can’t afford the luxury of footwear for every occasion but more sensible footwear would have been safer, something with a bit of grip and protection like trainers. A stubbed toe could result in a tragic accident on those parapets. I’m not their guardian angel and what I think is irrelevant.

the classic familiar images of Italy are mediterranean landscapes, very dirty cities like Naples, Rome and Venice, ugly houses and third world scenes; the Alps are in total contrast: beautiful houses, boreal forests and the towns of the dolomites are among the most beautiful and cared for on the planet.
@giacomonizi8930

@@NeoMartin0987-v7m I perfectly know why people are surprised, but surely not for this "contrast" you're talking about. The stereotypical images are not bad, but are just settled too much, that's why people are surprised to see something different to the old towns and the cute countryside (never expecting a lot of adventurous stuff) , but that's not necessarily mean that what you see out the alps is ugly and old or "in contrast". I mean, people should expect to find Dolomites and more (in the south for example, there are beautiful gorges and dry lands). The mediterranean biome, the volcanoes and the medieval towns complete the picture. I also can't understand your bad words for major cities like Roma, Napoli and Venezia (for sure they are not perfect, but you are rushing, in my opinion). Have a nice day

I got stung by one of the deadliest jellyfish while snorkelling in Galapagos a month ago (Portugues Man O' War). I lived in Toronto for 11 years and watched many people walking & text while they cross the street... Also a deadly decision. As humans... We all get to make decisions that shape our experiences. the peaks of the Alps are the Italian border, so Italy bordering with France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia has the exact same peasage but facing south, the Dolomites are a bit different in fact they are Unesco heritage. The landscapes that you Americans idealized as Swiss, in the Italian side, are located in Valle D'Aosta or in Lombardy (Valtellina/Adamello) where the peaks are more pointed. An American friend of mine, when I first took him to Couramayur, literally exclaimed: "it looks like the Teton in testosterone". Two thirds of the whole Italian territory is composed of mountains. Ciao from Milan

Madam Mikmak in a general regional geographic sense, they are extremely close to each other. The fact that international borders now separates the areas takes nothing away from the fact that the area has the same geological makeup (limestone and dolomite) and fall under the parent range, the Eastern Alps (the same mountain belt) that runs through Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Lichtenstein and Germany. Hence why it looks similar and is “pretty” close to Switzerland 🇨🇭

Lago di Sorapis is the most instagrammable location in the Italian Dolomites... there are actually quite a lot of tourists there in the summer, but it's still a hike in the Dolomites, and some parts are more dangerous than others, so you should still wear appropriate attire (hiking shoes, etc...)

To everyone commenting about them wearing ‘inappropriate footwear’: They were wearing Chacos and Tevas, which are sandals made specifically for outdoor activities like hiking, climbing, etc. They are way more appropriate, safe, and comfortable than regular sandals or flip flops! So yes, they were wearing ‘sandals’, but they were still properly prepared since those sandals are made for a similar purpose to hiking. I don’t think anyone has room to call them unprepared, unprofessional, or anything like that. They’ve been traveling for years, and they both know what works best for them!

Just for the people who are tempted to imitate this happy-go-lucky approach to walking in Dolomites: while the local mountain helicopter rescue service is always ready to rescue anybody who gets injured or caught out in unexpected difficult weather, if you require their service for any reason and you are judged having behaved carelessly (wrong equipment, lack of basic tools, inappropriate clothing, etc.) you will be rescued first and then asked to pay a fee of around € 90.00 per minute of flight. It pays to be properly equipped. Also try and build up some mountain experience before you venture out on any mountain. Every single day in the summer the papers report at least one casualty here in the alps.
