I discovered this channel last year as I was recovering from treatment for throat cancer. Cancer is treatable and it's something that you can survive. I'm glad for the transparency about your condition and know that you're not alone. I had my yearly CT scan recently and I'm blessed to still be cancer-free. I will have to have follow-ups for the rest of my life, but it's a small price to pay for being able to live. Stay strong, and keep going.

My mom just got a large sized bit of skin cancer removed from her lip last month. Unfortunate placement as it has left a permanent scar/deformity but its gone and that's what matters! Even though you hear skin cancer, and know its not the "worst" kind... its still a scary feeling to hear the word cancer in any capacity. It also took years for hers to get removed and it kept growing. Glad both her and you are cancer free and healthy now!

You sharing your story (being so young) highlights that skin cancer knows no age. This was a hard one to watch. We just started the cancer journey and it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It’s one of those things that you hear about so much that it almost becomes routine. For those who are very active outdoor or doing lots of hiking s and mountaineering, it is important to make sure you are well protected against radiation. So glad to hear you are cancer free! My husband went through the same thing as you about 5 yrs ago. He had a spot above his eyebrow that would heal and scab repeatedly. Finally got him to go see the dermatologist, his too came back as basal cell carcinoma. All of his yearly dermatology check ups have been clear since, but he is very aware of wearing his hat and sunscreen. We look back on pictures in the years before the diagnosis and that spot had been there for a long time. It is a very slow growing usually non spreading cancer but cancer none the less. You two are an amazing couple and I love watching all your adventures! Take care and God bless!

Thank you Kara and Nate for posting this!!! I saw your video this past monday and Nate perfectly described a spot I had on my face. By yesterday I was in the derm office having it looked at. They ended up freezing it and another spot they were concerned about. I go back in 2 weeks for a follow up and full body check. If I had waited longer it would have turned to cancer and if it werent for you both, I would have never went. I can’t thank you both for sharing this and raising awareness for skin cancer. I was a lifeguard for 10 years and sun junky. If I could have done it over again I would have been more strict with putting sunscreen on.

I had skin cancer removed back in 2007 I was 18 and now I have another spot on my back they are looking to biopsy. Just know we are praying for you and I’m so happy you are cancer free. I've had skin cancer many times on my face and over the years have needed 4 surgeries and have 1 more coming up. I'm so glad Nate is cancer free but please have your skin checked every 6 months as mine has resurfaced approx every 5 months over the last 4 years. Always wear a hat and sunscreen and thanks for sharing your story!!!! Stay healthy!

I had Moh's surgery done on my face for the same thing. A sore that just would not go away, I didn't even pick at it, and it just was always there. Mine, unfortunately was right between my eyes closer to my right eye. They didn't get it all the first time, so I had to go back in for more. I was very self conscious after surgery, and didn't want to make eye contact with anyone. I remember a little girl looking at me like I was some kind of freak show. I'm much older than you, but can't believe how I've gone from a complete sun worshipper to a spokesperson for sunscreen, hats, and long sleeves. I'll have a noticeable scar for the rest of my life, but hey I'm cancer free too. Thank you for sharing your story

I have been a sun worshiper my whole life and at age 69 I am facing what I have done to my skin. I had one spot cut out last Wed. I have previously had several spots cut out and others frozen. The surgery you had does hurt like hell for a few days I'm limping around this week realizing my sun days are OVER. It makes me sad, but I am grateful that mine, like yours, has not been life threatening, yet!
