I'm not sure if Fred and/or Tim would've let you untap if they saw Karmic Guide and Reveillark on the field... I think they would strike a deal to take you out along with Jamie. Or even spare Jamie for a turn, because Narset could still whiff, but that combo would not.

But then Fred would've just returned Ghalta to the command zone and recast it for very little mana. The permanent exile thing doesn't work very well against commanders.
@phyrexian_dude46456 жыл бұрын
@@DarkEinherjar He was going to lose anyway so its is better to do as much damage as possible. Exiling commanders do helps if they start to cost more and could have changed some moves, I know we have hindsight to know that the result would not change and with Ghalta is a pain in the ass to work around but on the moment it is a better move.
@DarkEinherjar6 жыл бұрын
I just realized something weird about that turn, which I stated in my most recent comment.
@DarkEinherjar6 жыл бұрын
Actually, he could've cast either Reveillark or Karmic Guide and attempted to go off during his next upkeep (he could use Phyrexial Tower to sac Lark and get his combo going). However, I don't think Fred and/or Tim would've let him untap at all if he did... And I as said in my comment, he apparently overtapped his mana that turn; he had enough mana to go off right then and there, and with everyone else tapped out, he would win.
@NMS1276 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Muddstah would've needed to sacrifice in response to the ETB trigger, before Fred decided whether to use the replacement. But letting his commander go to exile left him open to a spite concession, preventing the LTB trigger from going on the stack.

@DarkEinherjar6 жыл бұрын
No one stopped him? You do realize he couldn't play Narset as long as Elesh Norn was on the field, don't you?
@DarkEinherjar6 жыл бұрын
Yes, he was stopped by Elesh Norn, regardless of whether you want to "buy" it or not. He didn't have mana to pay for the Pact when Muddstah cast both Sun Titan and Birthing Pod and was clearly counting on swinging with Narset to turn the game in his favor. Elesh Norn coming out of the Pod and ruining that plan? Tough shit, man. Welcome to real-life Magic, where things can always go wrong for you because someone made a move you weren't expecting and you didn't happen to have the right answer against it. ;)
@BjornEinarr6 жыл бұрын
He kept a hand without fast mana. Hoping to cast Narset on t6 out of nothing but lands is not a good plan. Taking the extra turn to play just a land when Elesh is already out was also a bad play. Casting Teferi's Protection to fog 4 points of damage, when it could be used to give Narset "haste" was also terrible. I'd also like to point out, that Elesh Norn only lasted 2 rounds on the field. So no, he was not stopped, he played poorly. He had the tools to make it back, but wasted them.

Because fiendhunter has two seperate triggers you can abuse it with something like phyrexian tower. Essentially it enters, then in response you sacrifice it, then the death trigger happens. Because of the stack, death happens first, but nothing is exiled yet so it fizzles, then it dies, the it exiles.

at 11:30 you mention Underrealm Lich as an addition to your Karador deck giving you protection from milling out - could you elaborate a bit on that? I don't see how his ability keeps you from milling to many cards out with Hermit Druid, since that was the problem on this game.
@MTGMuddstah5 жыл бұрын
So the Lich is a replacement effect for drawing. Since his ability will occur instead of me drawing a card, if I have no library, even if I look at the top 3 with his ability and there are zero cards, it doesn't count as a draw.

Hey i have a question, when jamie used Teferis Protection that one turn and then on Muddstahs turn he uses pact of negation, i dont think he would have been able to cast it as technically he wasnt in the game anymore as he phased out and his entire bored was phased out, am i right here or is there something else?
@DarkEinherjar6 жыл бұрын
His permanents phase out, but Jamie himself is still in the game. That's exactly why he gains protection from everything and a lock on his life total. The cards he owns in zones other than the battlefield are also still in the game, as are any cards he puts on the battlefield AFTER Teferi's Protection resolves. Teferi's Protection doesn't say "you can't play cards, cast spells or activate abilities", so as long as you can pay their costs, you can still cast spells freely. Zero-cost spells like Pacts, spells that require you to pitch cards in your hand as an alternate cost, like Commandeer, and so on. Additionally, the "protection from everything" isn't absolute: if an effect doesn't target you, doesn't damage you and doesn't cause Auras to be attached to you, you're not protected from it. If Ichor Rats enters the battlefield, you'll still get a poison counter. If Mindslicer dies, you'll still discard your hand. If someone activates Scavenger Grounds, the cards in your graveyard will still be exiled.

hehe, yep, Ghalta hit really hard and really fast, nice win Fred!

Muddstah, I didn't understand that turn... not the accidental self-deck, but the way you used your mana: you said you cast Karador for BGW, but you tapped more lands than just three. What happened there? Counting your mana (eleven lands at that time), you paid 1 for the Druid and 3 for Karador, right? That would've left you with seven mana left, enough to either Evoke-cast Reveillark from the graveyard or cast it normally and feed it to the Pod, get Karmic Guide and Viscera Seer from Lark's trigger, bring Lark back with the Guide and then go off: you could've brought any creature you wanted from your graveyard to the battlefield and won the game right then and there with a death loop + Blood Artist. That, of course, assuming your decklist is up-to-date.
@MTGMuddstah6 жыл бұрын
There have been a few changes, but I think I may have overtapped in casting Karador, which could have attributed to the misplay. This game was a while back, so it's hard to remember in perfect detail.

The only reason why Narset couldn't do her job here was because Jamie was mana-starved and couldn't find the fifth mana to counter Birthing Pod with his Pact and prevent Elesh Norn from hitting the field. And some people in this comment section blamed him for "keeping a sketchy hand"... seriously, he had already gone down to six cards, which means two mulligans with even worse seven-card hands! If I were in his shoes, I'd probably have kept that hand as well just for the lands.

If the spells cost no mana, permanent sacrifices or life, or you have a way to generate mana without your permanents, like Elvish/Simian Spirit Guide, you can. Pacts, spells that exile cards from hand or graveyard as an alternate cost, like Commandeer... all of those can be cast while you and your board are out for lunch.
