Thanks a lot, just trying to get my first job as Business Analyst (previously worked through few position and ended up as so called System analyst, but it wasn't very close to industry realities). Just discovered your channel and really loved some things: you're concrete in describing the job and tasks themselves (not only giving high level descriptions) and keep it all realistic. For these videos I really appreciate the suggestion of create my own bit of work, even if I don't have a particular experience. In fact it's creating the experience and preparing an argument for the interview. Big thanks and going to watch some more (after another portion of BABOK lecture :) ).

Let me tell you that's really tough I'm really looking for being a part of BA. But have failed multiple attempts, bcoz of some experience related questions for example tell me something what you did in your project or any decision based questions. As far as mentors linkedIn goes none of. Them help or care even to talk and he was a member of iiba which kara mentioned. So in your next video please give us a real-time used case and senario based so it will be really helpful

I currently work in TV Production but don't really want my network to know I'm trying to move to a diff role because as a Freelance I still want to be able to get work. Would you recommend creating a brand new linkedin account for BA so I can optimise my subheading and experience to fit that line of work?
@karaleise2 жыл бұрын
Hi Chanelli, BA is a pretty involved and demanding role that will eat up a lot of your time so just want to point that out if you are thing of working 2 jobs. In terms of LlinkedIn, if you want to keep your BA separate from your TV production role -sure you can create a separate BA LinkedIn profile for that, however if they search your name either one might show up.

Thank you so much for sharing your tips and experience. I am working in a local IT support team for a big company and wanted to move into a BA role. I found one BA opening online that I really wanted to get into because the software they are working on is the one I am using every day and I think it's going to be a perfect fit for me. As you mentioned in the video, my current position seems to be a good transition to the BA role. I don't know anyone working as a BA. Would you recommend a mentor to me so I can get some advice or direction? Thanks.
@karaleise5 жыл бұрын
HI Anna, thanks for watching the video! You can look to see if the IIBA has a chapter in your city and sometimes they have mentorship programs. Even just to attend some of their meetings can be helpful. You can also check out the meetup app, there are sometimes meetup groups in our field. You can also join my fb group facebook.com/groups/2458571397498087/. It is fairly new but I am trying to build a community where BA's can help each other. There are also other BA groups on fb and linkedin as well that can give you mentorship advice. I am also here for you and if you have a specific area you would like me to do a video on - please feel free to ask. You can also email me at karaleiseblog@gmail.com. Best of luck to you!!!

Hi Ife, thanks for checking out the video! No, you do not need the certification to get your first BA job because employers are not yet insisting on it. Being certified is great for improving your knowledge but you don't have to wait on that to start looking for a job in this field. You can get a BA job without it. All the best!!

good evening. I am a citrix administrator with 2 yrs of microsoft technical instruction skills. what would be my best way coming from an IT sys admin to get into BA
@karaleise6 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment. I think you are in a great position already because you already have the technical background that will give you an edge in the BA field. What you are missing is to be on the business side. You need to understand how to model business problems, how to elicit requirements, how to design processes etc... The first thing to do is to get a copy of the BABOK and get familiar with the business analysis principles in it. Learn the jargons and terms, practice drawing UML diagrams and process design. Start following BA topics online, you can go to IIBA.com website and get some free materials there. Find out about IIBA chapters in your area and if you are able, go to any of their meetings ( it's about $10 for non-members). Take a free or paid course on Udemy, Coursera or Lynda on business analysis. And of course, you can check out my blog karaleise.com for articles on the topics and watch my other videos on business analysis soft skills. Soon I will be publishing a series on how to do business analysis interviews, the questions interviewers usually ask and the best answers to give. You can look out for that to prep you when you are ready to start applying for BA jobs. Good luck!

How do I afford certifications so expensive? Should I get them?
@karaleise5 жыл бұрын
Hi David, thanks for watching the video! The BA certs are expensive so you have to make sure it makes sense right? I think getting certified is great and does add weight to your qualifications but because these BA certs are still new and a lot of employers are not insisting on them, you can get away with not having one and still get a good BA job. For now it is not a must have - that will change soon. So you do not have to spend the money on the cert right now if you have skills and some experience as a BA, however if you feel like you do not have enough BA knowledge then get the cert or at least sign up for an online course, buy the BABOK, continue to watch my videos! Do what you must to get the knowledge so that you can perform when you do get the job! Good luck!
