Incredibly helpful video as I transition to the BA role. I feel like I have a much better understanding of what I need to do on day-to-day tasks and how I fit in with the other teams. I love your energy! Thanks!

I'm so glad you brought up the fact that there can be 2 types of use cases! I was so confused as a fresh college grad because at school they taught us the UML version but it seems like in "real world" not many people care about UML anyways.. At least not where I work.
@karaleise2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Bianca! Yes in practice you rarely see use case used to mean the UML version. It's mostly used to mean how the feature is already being used or how the improvement is intended to be used when it is available. When they ask you to document the use case, they do not expect you to provide a UML use case description document, they expect a word document with details about the use of the feature! Hope that helps and I'm glad you found this video useful!!!

Karaleise - my absolute first day looking at BA as a career choice. I am 65 yrs of age & have just returned to NZ after 15 yrs teaching high school in Vietnam. I am also waiting on a hip replacement. I had a chance encounter in the gym with a bloke who tutours Masters student at Victoria University in Wellington and has his own ICT company. He suggested checking out BA and here I am. I'll be trawling through all your vids as we go. Thank you so much for your generosity and effort to produce these excellent FREE products. Best Arthur.

Your videos come around JUST in the nick of time for my life! 1 question, I've been assigned the task of designing dashboards and reports and feel completely out of my depth here. Do you have any advice of where to start and what it is I need to capture and what style of documentation I should produce and how long it should take? Its "agile" timelines, but the developers want more of a waterfall level of detail 🥵🥵 Any advice is appreciated
@karaleise3 жыл бұрын
Hi Samsung, this is my 3rd attempt at responding to this and every time something goes wrong and the response is lost! Here is a dashboard template from my website: karaleise.com/business-analyst-templates/ The biggest thing to keep in mind when designing a dashboard is to know what questions you are trying to answer on the dashboard. Also what kinds of data do you need? What visualizations are best to represent the data? How can you help the user see summarized data but also drill down into the details and back out easily? What are they doing currently and whats the main problem with the existing reports? I cannot speak to how long this would take but you start with understanding the questions they would like to answer and then create drafts of what you think it could look like. Then meet with your stakeholders to get buy-in. Do not go to dev until you get buy-in from the business - so that the actual intended users drive the design instead of it being driven by the developers. The documentation you produce is likely going to be the mockups of the dashboard, the questions it will answer and the user stories you need dev to build it (if its in-house) Hope this helps! Please join my mailing list on www.karaleise.com, I have a consultation service coming up where I will offer 1 on 1 career advice. Cheers

@@karaleise signed up! Thank you so much. I often get lost with the to and fro between the business and devs. So am trying to navigate the correct way to do things, often get muddled in the politics. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and advice!

Where is the business case document and who creates it? What about data models
@karaleise5 ай бұрын
The business analyst can create the business case document or the PM too, depends on your org. What's your specific question on data models?

@karaleise Жыл бұрын
Hi Eagle, thank you for watching and supporting the channel. Don't get stuck on the new terminologies, it's just rebranding what was already being done. The BA role is the same: be the bridge between IT and the business, deliver high quality requirements and optimized processes. Hope that helps!
