You can literally take a look at qiu's legs it looks like it's being sun burned it's all because of akimoto's powerful low kicks that he learned from kyokushin karate. And because of akimoto's low kicks that is powerful, it increased the scores on akimoto from the judges and that is the most reasonable why akimoto was the clear winner

It is because the ring has good lighting, they are both very lean and have no shirt on, and there were almost no other people to compare them to. The Japanese fighter was more active and landed more power shots. Good combos. Always moving forward. I think he just edged the Chinese fighter, who was a very smart fighter with very good reflexes.

aki does not have the speed advantage as per the commentator. qiu has much better anticipation, reflex, response and counter. qiu is also clearly a smart fighter. qiu has my win.

Akimoto lost the fight since he took more hits than Qui. If you think in term of luck then Qui was lucky in winning the fight, but unlucky because the judges favored the Japanese fighter! Maybe the judges are Americans and Europeans since they always go out of their way to discriminate against Chinese people and China itself!

Akimoto is very good ... but Qiu is just a little bit better. I love the way easily and repeatedly sweeps and drops Akimoto like a tiger swatting a ghazelle with it's paw, that's skill! Qiu is my winner.

Dude literally SHOWED the blueprint to beating opponents who spam low kicks ! ! Yes he didn't win here as he almost gave the first round away figuring out his opponent. But once he changed level starting the second round he was dropping his opponent endlessly timing the low kicks. His opponent though, made no adjustments, and he won't be so lucky in a rematch. LOVE China !

A fighting match's scoring system should reflect the real life situation as much as possible, otherwise it will become another Olympic game sports.

In this Kickboxing match, the ref would stop the sweeper as soon as the other guy fall on the floor. In MMA, being on the floor will be a big disadvantage. If this is how scoring work in Kickboxing, then this sports will have no potential for growth in viewership.

Kickboxing came from Karate though. It was started by Karate guys who also trained in Muay Thai. The Chinese guy is obviously from Sanda, which is why he was always looking for a throw or sweep. In Sanda rules he would have destroyed the other guy, but with kickboxing rules the Karate guy has the advantage.

I love this kind of fighting, and I hate it at the same time. I love it because it's pure striking, pure technique. And these guys are excellent at it. Unbelievably fast and powerful. I would not want to be on the receiving end of those kicks. I know what that feels like, and it's not fun. But I hate it because as the sweeps make clear, Akimoto can get away with some really irresponsible strikes because he's protected by the rules. You don't get that in MMA or on the street. Any real fighter would put him on his backside and ground and pound him. I appreciate the realism that the MMA ruleset brings to the table, even though, when I'm watching MMA, what I really want to see is this =D
