I start my karate journey in Venezuela at 12 years in Okinawa gojū ryu style karate, back then I was in love with the karate, well... with everything that was japanese to be honest. Isn't a secret what happened to my country, I had to left the training and a part of my life in order to find me a way to live... it was heartbroken for me. Right now I'm a 23 years old man, living, working and studying in Brazil... this years had been streesfull for me cuz working and studying at the same time isn't so easy as I tought, but lately I've been seeing your videos and them turn myself again in that 12 years old child who was in love with this art. They gave me peace and reminds me my old days when I was happy and I didn't know it. These days I was walking on the streets and I see a poster wich says "Kyokushin karate" and without think it to much I went in and see a training, that passion again start rising in my body and give me the courage to start again this journey. My body pains at the end of all training and I come to my house with myself made a piece of junk, but my heart and my spirit are full of joy. I just want to say thank you for make me fall in love again with this style of life, and keep pushing forward jesse, your helping more people than you think with your videos.

I was fortunate enough to live in Naha for a while when I was in Okinawa. I lived at 1 Chrome 15-3 Maejima. I studied at a dojo about 10 blocks away from where I lived. On the first floor of my apartment building was a tupperware shop. The second floor apartment was lived in by the owner of the tupperware shop and I, with my family lived on the 3rd floor. I truly appreciate the video tours of Okinawa! I get the opportunity to see again places I visited when I lived there. I also get to see just how much things have changed since my time there. Thank you for restoring some very fond memories....

Simply thank you! I discovered my passion for karate only a little over a year ago, but I'm already totally bewitched. Unfortunately, with my 36 years everything is much more difficult, but I managed to do a double examination, and now have orange belt. the road is long and I know that will never end, but also through your example, I am encouraged to move forward. the target is to get to the first dan to 40 years (maybe), and celebrate in Japan on the occasion of the Olympics. I will continue to follow you! greetings from Italy! ps. soon I am purchasing a Karate Gi Seishin !!

Alby I hope you continue your training. Maybe my own journey can offer you some insights. I began training at 16 years of age. I only wanted to learn to protect myself. So after a few months I gathered up my courage to ask when we could spar ? Sensei replied not before Black Belt! So I asked how long before one might be ready for Black Belt? Sensei answered sternly, "Not before ten years!" After a few years I totally forgot about any rank. All I wanted was skill. In 2000 my teacher asked me if I would now be interested in testing for Instructors degree. After 25 years I obtained my Black Belt. This year I was promoted to 3rd degree. I am of course honored. And over the years my goals have changed a little. Now my only goals are to pass down that which I have learned. I encourage you to maintain a daily discipline of training. As the years pass by our efforts are rewarded with the enrichment of our Soul. May your path provide you with protection, patience, and peace. Sifu. Ching Yi Kung Fu Association. Vienna, Austria.

My suggestion is to forget about the target. If you are focused to far ahead you might not enjoy the steps that lead you there! This may even generate frustration which will not be beneficial to learning. I've experienced this throughout life learning different things. Is it not true Jesse Enkamp that back in the day there was no such thing as belt colours?! As Mr. Miagi said in Karate Kid, "Belts are only useful for holding up your pants." Thanks for the videos Jesse Enkamp!!! I love the episode about tracing Karate's roots in China. "Tea Shop Style", I'm not sure I got the name right, is where Karate originated from. Correct? You said that the guy showing you was the last master! I thought, "why wouldn't Jesse go train with him to become an expert in that style?"

How effective is karate in MMA or in a street fight? Or is it mostly an exhibition sport? I do some muai thai and found it quite effective in street fights.
@thomasjackson38337 жыл бұрын
Jewelry Bag depends karate has a lot of parts to it that are completely ineffective in a street fight, but then it has some moves are undeniably useful in a street fight karate is a mix of both, also depends on what style you do if you do goju ryu most of that can be applied to a street fight. If you do kyokashin karate that is as effective as Muay Thai in a street fight, but a lot of American water down karate are almost completely useless in a street fight. So in short the answer is there is no perfect answer, it all depends
