@DouglasGomesBueno-jw9lh7 ай бұрын
in the early days of Kyokushin karate training, bare knuckle strikes to the face were allowed, but this resulted in many injuries, and blood, which caused some students to withdraw from training. Also, they wanted the matches to last, be a challenge and not end due to cuts. They did for some time wrap their hands in towels, but Sosai Oyama believed that wearing protective gloves would take away from the realistic nature that his style was building. Therefore, it was decided that hand and elbow strikes to the face, head and neck would no longer be allowed in training and competition.
@jocoolshow7 ай бұрын
I think allowing punches to the face in exchange for wearing small gloves is more realistic than going bare knuckle but not allowing punches to the face. Gloves only protect your opponent from getting cut and your hand from breaking which isn’t much of an issue with body punches. The trade off of standing in front of your opponent and just throwing/eating shots without much defense to the head other than for kicks isn’t a realistic way to fight

Extended clinch is not allowed in kyokushin (you can usually grab and throw a knee though), and big gloves make a huge difference when you can only attack the body--huge disadvantage for the attacker as you can't get through the guard as easily and advantage for the defender bc you can just block everything more easily with gloves. In semi knockdown (kyokushin rules but with gear), you usually are only allowed to use small gloves, like mma or tkd gloves. They should have relied on more kicks, practiced our single-hand clinches more, etc. The first guy relied on punches, not thinking about how the larger surface area meant he couldn't pierce through an elbow guard. The brown belt gal kept accurately punching her opponent right in the solar plexus, not realizing that a big glove would distribute the force away into the broader sternum area. They should have used far more kicks, especially since their opponents were practically GIVING their heads to them! They certainly fought valiantly and with great gusto, and good on them for it! But they just didn't think about the proper strategy to use. I wouldn't change the rules at all. The Thai fighters were gracious and humble to permit a rule that said no face punching or elbows. The Kyokushin fighters should have modified their strategies around the gloves.
