This is a recording of our live zoom training from 4/26/20. We went live from our home dojo, The Shotokan Karate Club of Maryland in Randallstown, MD.
We warm up the class with basic stance training then work on hip rotation. We keep moving throughout the class to keep our heart rates at a good level.

Great workout and extremely well taught. Just one question.. is it normal for your style to leave the hands loose and shoulders relaxed while transitioning from stances?

Thanks for watching! Without knowing exactly what moments you are referencing, I would say yes, generally I want to be relaxed as I am moving, and sometimes think about blocking or at least covering while stepping. If I was too tight in a transition, it would make the movement less fluid (at least for me) and also make it harder to change techniques as I move, if I need to react to something.

@@KarateTraining thanks for the reply! I completely understand your reasoning and understand different styles and instructors have different ways of teaching. I'm nearly 40 and in my experience I was always taught to keep my hands up for better balance, technique and control. In TKD they tend to leave the hands down especially when sparring. My daughter is grading soon and your videos have been very helpful getting her ready, I can't thank you enough! Well done to you both!
