The hip movements & control in Taekwondo (Poomsae) is same as Karate (Kata). But there are almost non-existent Poomsae videos on that topic on youtube. Hence, I regularly visit your channels for varied topics.

Oss! I'm so glad I learned this though my Sensei (Wada) many years ago. It has stayed with me. I have been away from training for too long, but just now I was doing some punches along with the vid, and the hips automatically were engaged! 😊 Thank you for the reminder! I think I shall start up again! 🙏 Oss!

Master Egami said, "Hips mean knees." When your knees don't move toward target, neither does your body mass. Hit a bag (or opponent) to test power. It doesn't matter what you feel; what matters is what opponent feels. Rotating the hips for linear thrusting attack (e.g., zuki) is insufficient. Punching gyakuzuki from zenkutsu, if your front knee doesn't move toward opponent, most power is left untapped. Rotating hips go with circular attacks (hooks, roundkick.)

I tried everything I could with my pupils (in Aikijujutsu) to make them understand this : all your exemples : "from the ground", ""put your hip" etc. The only thing I found useful (til now) is to make them crawl on the back while punching. I'll try your way next week. Thanks for the advice. Oh and, by the way, my pupils are 10 and 11 years old children, and they are serious. It is just something difficult to learn. Thank you very much sensei. It is always a pleasure to see your videos. Very technical, very useful.

Love this as a boxer at a top gym this is only taught on a foundational base level. I’ve been studying hip rotation movements and found this to be extremely helpful. Especially this: Hips first, then upper.

The hip movement you are showing has been the standard in Shukokai karate since the early 60s, the double hip twist was developed by Chojiro Tani, and Shigeru Kimuura.

All I can say is once you get it,....you got. Then you can smooth it out into one continuous movement. At first it can be kind of jerky while you learn how to smooth and blend everything together. Like learning how to dance. Ugly at first. But when get it, you got it.

Hip rotation, this is were you get your power on deliverance, from the hips 🥊🥋🥊
@mituc Жыл бұрын
Over time I came to conclude that insisting on the hip rotation WITHOUT mentioning that the source of hip rotation should actually be the push of the back foot and not just a twist of the core is incomplete and even wrong. Because students are taught about "hip rotation" they end up making all kinds of funny moves and not actually generate the power their body is capable of. In this video I see all these techniques done right (well, yes, Yusuke is a true black belt, 3rd DAN I believe) but not taught exactly right. However, starting at 01:30 in the video things go in the right direction and Yusuke explains how the pelvis/hip is actually moved, looking closer one can see that the toes point into the right direction and generate proper movement, and so on. The charging is not on/with the hip, it is actually done from the toes (pay attention to the parallel done with golf).
@KarateDojowaKu Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the explanation! Since the student I was talking to already had that knowledge, it wasn't in the first half of the video. But I believe it was cleared up in the second half like you mentioned!

Question, do you have a Video Like heian shodan, where you explain the word, meaning, moving and Sense? For me IT was very helpful to understand what means what If Sensei says" do this... do that... What i mean. You listen and hear movement like age uke,i knew IT means upper Block and what to Take care off, even IT needs still Training for me to stand always nice and used my legs/hips right. Thanks

Ohayou gozaimasu, great work, but as a women of 40 and going for shodan, I’m told my kekomi Geri are not high enough, as I have hip issues, training with my sensei, he help to flex me to show I can get higher kick, but I was stiff with hips, can you help with exercises for this. I was taught to kick the walk from certain angles. Any more info on you part is welcome.

I think what you are saying is you take the energy from the hip and drive it through the arm into the target. If rewording helps. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4OmiX9pmdSHbNE. Again Soke Inoue Yoshime, where it might be of use.

To be precise, it is more like channeling the weight from the leg via the hip and the torso to the arm.

All body parts must start movement at the same time and must move only forward, otherwise either you will lose power by creating gaps or punch will be too slow. Your hip shouldn't be telegraphinng your punch. Oss!
@KelvindeWolfe Жыл бұрын
You’re still doing it incorrectly. What you’re trying to explain is actually the exact opposite of what you are demonstrating. The power from the hip rotation is part of the earth phase while the hip matching you are showing is from the wood phase. It is from Tō-te not modern karate but you can find it in some Chito ryu because the founder studied the original.
@amadej-ki2ro Жыл бұрын
Sorry, but totally wrong, you have no connection between your arms and your hips, you should transfer the rotation from your legs and body to your arm strike.
