@asianbonglord The biggest issue today is the mad hype about ufc and mma, so we need some greatmaters that would accept to dedicate their time to produce sports version of their art to be effective in the octagon with LOT OF TRIALS AND ERRORS, not saying it works or work not, but majority of martial arts going extinct until some lyoto machida for others styles appear to "save" their own martial art.
@MidProductionz4 жыл бұрын
@@organharvester1983 mma for what people consider it to be is highly overrated. UFC fighters are the best in the world no doubt, but to understand why that is you have to look into many things. And it's not because those are the best styles for fighting. Without a doubt everyone should like how to fight on the ground and standing up. But the UFC style of MMA is not the end all be all nor is it the best way of fighting. It is however the best way to fight within the limited ruleset.

Absolutely the best attitude any Martial artist could ever take. I am a purple belt in Bjj, I am a 4th Dan in Tang Soo Do, I've been in the cage, amatuer smokers, more than once when I was younger and tempteted by the 'what crap works and what doesnt'. I will say this yes, you can weed out what needs to be exposed if your main goal is only DEFENSE. There is so much to be learned from each different style which all came from different cultures. The "arts' in modern day are not just for defense, they have a lifestyle and that usually encompasses positive character development and overcoming insecurities and anger control. If you only train in martial arts to be effective in a fight which is a must I will add, then you are a limited martial arts to; you are one dimensional. Also, when you begin to call people or style negative terms like fake or make fun of them, that is no different then doing that to another human in a social setting and it sets you in a horrible light...a little humility and consideration for others feelings. No one knows everything about everything. We can learn something from anyone, any single person, even if the bit of knowledge is small....it is still more than what you knew before you met that person. Don't be close minded. Open yourself and grow. That's how u will give back to society.

First of all, bruce lee said that to o'hara when he tried to intimidate bruce by breaking a board in front of his face. Bruce said that in response to show him that he's not impressed or afraid. Unlike the board that o'hara just broken, bruce would be able to fight back. Bruce, NEVER intended to use that quote to say that board breaking, use of punching bags or use of wooden dummy is useless or impractical. Boards, bags etc are all part of training to learn and build up technique, strength and form. It was never intended as a way to show off fighting skills. If people think Wing Chun is ineffective in MMA, just know there is a difference between someone with Boxing and BJJ and someone with Boxing, BJJ, and Wing Chun. When they have those fundamental bases and then a traditional hybrid martial art like wing chun with it, I believe that boxing will make the wing chun striking more effective and bjj will make the wing chun grappling more effective thereby allowing the wing chun to be functional and make a difference as apposed to if the fighter merely had just boxing and bjj
@madwitchdoctor72164 жыл бұрын
Boxing has much harder, more effective strikes and wrestling and JJ have superior grapples. Anyone doing either regularly will be an athlete. You won't be doing Wing Chun. I don't see a combat benefit at all. It's just a lifestyle choice.
@Akyaer2 жыл бұрын
@@madwitchdoctor7216 The combat benefit is this: Wing Chun helps unify your body's muscles and skeletal structures so they are more efficient. If you watch boxers a fair amount use a lot of energy to fight. If you watch this sifu move, he only uses exactly what is needed to get the job done. There's less reliance on muscle and endurance; more reliance on technique and skeletal alignment---> combined with quick and strategic execution. There's a lot more going on here than meets the eye.
@tomanderson61402 жыл бұрын
MMA has been around for close to 30 years now, and I've still seen ZERO Wing Chun fight footage that didn't look laughable. Anyone can look good in a controlled environment doing their schtick. Arts that are actually effective are those that train with real resistance, period. While I appreciate traditional arts, the problem is that people who hang out a shingle to teach these arts are inherently making the claim that the person studying with them will learn how to defend themselves, and that's highly disingenuous. In your example, boxing and BJJ need Wing Chun like a fish needs a bicycle, and the person who knows them -- unlike the poor untrained sod who knocks on the door of the Wing Chun kwoon -- knows enough to see that Wing Chun is impractical.

The way that you're looking at martial arts is narrow-minded. It isn't about "winning" or "losing" or even "fighting". Yes, these techniques (and all martial arts in general) came out of a need to create a self-defense system to protect yourself in the event of a fight, but martial arts have evolved to much more than that, and fighting to protect yourself is not the only context in which martial arts can be practiced. No martial artist worth their weight in salt ever will tell you that their system is best for a street fight, or for every scenario in self defense. I don't practice martial arts because I want to win fights or because I see myself getting into altercations in public anytime soon. I practice martial arts to stay in shape, to improve my mind-body connection, to learn and improve on the techniques taught by the respective martial arts system, and to use those techniques to improve my life and fortify my mental health. It looks the way it looks between master and his students because you're looking at two people that are practicing the same martial arts under one system (taught by this master). No one would argue that if the master fought someone on the street, it would look VERY different. No one made that claim. So while you sit at your keyboard and feel good about yourself for "debunking" martial arts, these folks are learning something, and getting in good physical and mental health. You want to go out and win a fight? Go ahead and go out and beat someone's brains out. Hope that makes you happy, but not everyone is out looking for an altercation to prove what an amazing fighter they are, and almost every I've ever met practicing martial arts in any form is definitely NOT learning martial arts for that purpose.

"Wing Chun doesnt work in MMA" Tell that to Tony Ferguson. He mixes a bit of wing chun into his diverse style. MMA has evolved alot sense the early days. It started out as basically Grappling and Muay thai (and boxing) were what worked. Then over the next years we see stuff from Tkd and Karate working its way back in. Hell some guys even use some capoeara. Point is. Its not the style thats effective, all styles have somthing to teach. Its the person using them and how they apply it.

While I'm willing to accept that Tony Ferguson has trained in Wing Chun, the number of times he has actually used Wing Chun in a real fight is zero. Because it doesn't work. He was what everyone else does for their standup; he uses kickboxing.

Wing Chun is an in fighting style. I’ve done it for 20+ years (as a hobby not because it’s the best) and boxing and a bit of wrestling. Real Wing Chun look like bare knuckle boxing - same stance, same mirroring, same hip-elbow connection, same focus on attack. I’ve sparred various styles and the two hardest things to deal with were boxers and Muai Thai - because they are used to getting hit and keeping going. One thing a lot of people (including WC people) get wrong is that there are no techniques in WC - it’s about a series of ‘games’ that teach you reflexive responses. These can only be tested and used in sparring, otherwise it’s like learning a vocabulary without grammar.

This style is hard to use when a person knows how to kick and box. When strikes are direct and retracts quickly, Wing Chun is at a disadvantage. Try testing it against a MMA fighter before you judge. Using it against a regular untrained person would be fine.

I always say if a art form isn't practiced with full contact to learn how to use it then its useless. Muay Thai, kickboxing, boxing all use full contact which is why you can use those forms in MMA or other combat sports. If W.C is practiced with full contact vs other styles to learn how to use it then yes it's legit but stuff like this is all for show. Looks good but isn't legit

Comments are hilarious. Saying wing chun is for show and what not. First of all, martial arts is meant to lower your movement and raise your precision. Ultimately, the martial art itself is to help you counter and fight better. What YOU can do with it, is YOUR problem. ANYONE can complain a type of style is trash or useless in a “real fight”. Perfecting a style takes time. So be aware, because if you flat out just SUCK at it, doesn’t mean the next person is the same. Stop blaming the style, blame the person who half asses it.
