Thank you Sensei. I started Martial arts at18yrs old doing Wing Chun for 10yrs. This school closed down when the Sifu emigrated and I took up WTK TKD for the next 14yrs reaching 3rd Dan at 40yrs old. I then went to work and live in India for over 20yrs and although I continued Martial arts alone, I studied Yoga, one on one with a great Yoga guru from 6.30am until 7.45am in the morning for 6 days a week, I found that yoga blended well with martial arts and I still do 1 hour of Yoga every morning to help keep me flexible! Three months ago I found a great local Shotokan club and at 66yrs old, I decided to start learning Shotokan as a white belt and I am due to take my first grading in 3 weeks time! I have been following your teachings online as an addition to my 3 classes a week at the Dojo, as I believe that the Dojo sessions are for learning and my time at home, being retired. I have lots of spare time, are for practising what I learned that week in the Dojo! Martial arts are, lifelong practice and I want to thank you for the great tips I have picked up from your Video's Sensei! OSU!!!

39 Hi. I'm 39, i began with martial arts with 20. I was not interested in Karate, because of bashing. Many people said, that karate is no good self defense etc. Now, i checked out many styles. Even arts with sword and shield for 1,5 years. So my interesting gets focused in karate because i watched a video of bass rutten, where he tolds, that his style of fighting has something to do with karate. So i asked myself, why i should not try out karate. I found to this katas and i have to say that i f*** (sry) love them! It's like moving meditation. Of course you can not use katas for a real fight, but everybody with experience in fighting arts or fighting sport, as able to see what treasure you can find in karate. Thank you for these great videos and greetings from germany 😊✌👍
@KaratePlaybook5 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Thank you for sharing this with us. To be 100% honest, I used to see kata as a waste of time but then I found as I trained it and got better, my fighting got better. As you mentioned, it is great for meditational training, but also visualization and body mechanics. With that said, you are right that it is not directly usable in fighting. The concepts, techniques and body mechanics/coordination you learn in it definitely are usable, just not in the rigid format in which we practice. Kata, like Karate as a whole, is often misunderstood. Again, thank you for sharing and I am glad you gave Karate a shot and enjoy it. Please let me know if there's anything I can help you with.
@LightPresident951485 жыл бұрын
Thank you. It's just, that karate was created for peasants. As a peasant against a Samurai or Soldier, you have to watch out for weapons, but also has to strike hard. And those katas always reminds you "watch out, strike hard" Of course you got to train hard, and watch out for other styles etc. But the basic sense of karate is ,what i like the most: "be harmonic, watch out, strike hard" Because, in my eyes and also experience, in the street, you are always the peasant and you attacker is the Ninja, samurai or soldier. When you get attacked, you have nothing but hands, your enemy has the "sword"... Now i have to look, where i can train karate, but i'm sure that I WILL And your videos helped me very much till now. I have no more questions. Thanks

@KaratePlaybook6 жыл бұрын
@@LerneSchweizerdeutsch I am going to do a video on flexibility very soon, just know that stretching should NOT be very painful. Your goal should be to get the muscles to RELAX into the position. First work a lot of circular actions and swinging straight-leg stretch kicks (front, side and back) to get good range of motion, this will help with kicking until the video comes out. Also check out our Facebook page and/or group if you'd like to stay up-to-date: Page: facebook.com/KaratePlaybook Group: facebook.com/groups/KaratePlaybook
@LukaMegurine6 жыл бұрын
I have a similar problem. I can actually stretch pretty far for side splits. The center split is still a long way from where I’d like, but it’s not terrible. The problem I’m encountering is anytime I throw a side kick or hook kick, something is catching in my hip joint, which is painful enough to cause me to stop mid-kick. It’s super frustrating because I’m getting to the more advanced kicks and I’m not able to execute them because of that “catch” feeling. Is it a matter of stretching, flexibility, or maybe my body just doesn’t work that way?
