A lead single is usually always written by more than one person(averages around 12 people), especially for singers. I’m saying you discredited MC’s songwriting abilities because you suggested that her co-writers and her “team” (not sure who you’re referring to when you say Mariah and her “team”) were responsible for writing the majority of the song and she probably had some inputs and ideas to add in, which is really not true. MC has been the MAIN songwriter for all her songs since her very first song Vision of Love. You can check the writing credits from her earlier albums and see that she wrote the lyrics for almost all of her songs all by herself. And it was the music production and beats that she collaborated with other songwriters. She often had one or two writers who could play instruments to help her with the melodies as she didn’t play any instrument. Her hit song “Always be my baby” for example, was written by MC, Jermaine Dupri and Manuel Seal. Jermaine and Mac both told in the interview several times that Jermaine and Manuel Seal wrote and produced the beat and instrumental production for the song, and Mariah was the one who wrote all the melodies and lyrics on top of the production. Not to mention that she came up with all the vocal layers, harmonies, and adlibs. Her lead singles in the 90s like Fantasy, Honey, and Heartbreaker had multiple writers on the credits - because they were the writers for the songs she sampled. She borrowed the samples, but the melodies and lyrics were all 100% written by her. Insinuating that she had a team of writers who were writing the majority of the tune, especially the lyrical content, FOR her is just uninformed and disrespectful. And It’s ironic because you probably wouldn’t suggest or mention that Eminem (or other artists who have this “songwriter” persona) had a team of writers who were writing FOR him and he really just added some ideas here and there. but if you really look at it, Eminem has had as many or even more cowriters on his writing credits than MC. I get that with all the diva antics, she doesn’t really present herself as a talented songwriter with gifted lyricism and melody making abilities, but she really is.
