For the chemical plant story, if the client didn't legally own the changes to the recipe, then they were only entitled to the original. Not op's company's fault the client didn't secure their patent over the years.

The pregnant SIL needs to go pound sand. Her behavior would have been inappropriate at any funeral, let alone the funeral for three people, two of them being a toddler and an infant. If brother wants to back her egregious behavior, he can go pound sand too. It's fine to be happy you're pregnant, but making a thing of it at the funeral for two of someone else's babies is waaaaaaay beyond cruel and heartless. I feel sorry for whatever kids she has, to have that for a mother and not much better for a father. Agreed. I used to know someone like this who turned everything that happened into a story about herself. Let's call her Kelly. Her favorite sound was her own voice and her favorite subject was, you guessed it, herself. Kelly use anything and everything to draw attention to herself. It wasn't until I started studying psychology I realized Kelly was a narcissist. For clarity, Kelly was a middle-aged woman, with two kids and, by the time I cut contact with her, was an expectant grandmother yet she had the emotional maturity of a spoiled, undisciplined five-year-old. She had no respect for boundaries, zero comprehension that the word no is a completely valid response and nothing resembling a sense of accountability. If anyone put up the metaphorical roadblock to her entitlement, she interpreted those people as being purposely mean to her. She always had to have her no matter the cost. In the time that I knew her, I saw multiple relationships crumble and go down in flames because again, Kelly was the most important person and the world and how dare anyone not know that. If anybody wouldn't bow down, kowtow or coddle to her every waking desire, her first instinct was to talk crap about that person. She had it in her diseased mind that anyone who wouldn't let her have her way were just bullies. In reality, it was the other way around. Anyone with firm boundaries or told Kelly to pound sand, or instantly responded to by her talking crap and concocting various smear campaigns against them. Then when it all came back to blow up in her face, she would play the victim while silently enjoying the chaos she had created. It was like dealing with an overgrown middle school mean girl who never mentally or emotionally mature past the age of twelve. It should also come as no surprise whatsoever that Kelly was also a grifter with a zero skills and even less talent. Yes, she was a thief and stole anything that wasn't nailed down. I remember she used to love meant to me about why her kids turned out the way they did. Hello. She wasn't exactly a good role model. Anyway, I'm going off on one here. It sounds to me like the sister-in-law and Kelly are two peas from the same rotten pod. She got a rude awakening from OP and if she doesn't wake the hell up completely, it won't be the last time.

Story 5: this is where a good written agreement comes into the picture. They can't sell the recipe, they can't use it for themselves.. but I bet there is no agreement on what to do when the recipe is forced to change. My bet is that there was no agreement beyond 'go do so if you want to keep my business'. Happens all the time. Just a bit of free service to keep a good paying customer attached to you. But what if that paying customer just ends up leaving anyway? There is no agreement concerning the updated recipe. For sure, all the updates were communicated and agreed upon, but that doesn't mean they are obliged to give that new recipe whenever the customer asks for it.

The third-story: OP showed far more restraint than I would have. Seriously, read the room. If the sister-in-law is so completely narcissistic that she can't compute in her brain that a funeral is not the place to announce her pregnancy and make the whole occasion all about herself, then I don't think there's really any hope for her. To literally go up to the grieving widow and mother and compare being an expectant parent to her three horrific losses is just beyond me. The ego on this woman! The unthinking, entitled selfish gall! OP roasted her and gave her a reality check. So what if she left in tears. I just can't even fathom someone using of all occasions, a funeral to announce their pregnancy and then draw attention to herself when everyone is obviously grieving. Story 1: That dumb Karen was really lucky all she got was charged for kicking poor Hades and the light bear hug in all of this. If that were me (and im sure a ton of other people out there) and that woman slapped me, kicked my dog, attacked an old man security, then try to lie and frame me for threatening her and accusing me of being a creep around her kid, she would be sucking her grits through a straw. Client has every right to take their business elsewhere however, if the manufacturer made changes to the recipe, those changes belong to them unless their contract stipulates that any changes made thereafter still belong to the originator. If that is not the case, they are only entitled to what they came in with.

Story 5: not a petty move in my opinion. They're entitled to change providers if they want to but that doesn't entitle them to the updated recipe unless it's in writing. The original recipe they gave was a base line for what that customer wanted to see from their provided over the years the provider wanting to keep their customer satisfied improved on that recipe at time and cost to the provider, this was a service they provided and this customer decided they no longer want service from this provider and decided to go to another. That customer should have honestly expected that. Of course they're management probably changed over the years so maybe they didn't know about the changes but either way it worked out the way it should have

Story 1: It would taken me every ounuce of my willpower not to snap on that Karen. You do not kick my dog. Story 2: Why does Management always got to learn the hard way? Tackling from behind means bringing the person to the ground if you're doing that hug where they can't move then essentially it's called a bear hug. By the way there is a way to get out of that and I happen to know about it. If you happened to put them on the ground and restrained them that way by sitting on them then I don't know how they might be able to get out of that however I'm sure there's law enforcement that knows how to get out of that sort of situation or military people out there who know. Karen's will be Karen's unfortunately. I feel bad for the poor kid and I hope that kid had someone else who could take care of them while their mom is obviously going to be in trouble. I just feel really bad for the kid having to essentially witness their parents bad behavior and deal with the whole situation as well.

Story 5, the company absolutely has the right to change manufacturers, after 40 years. However if the production company has made major alterations over 40 years, depending on the jurisdiction it could be argued that thee company who provided the original recipe is ONLY entitled to the unaltered recipe, as the updated recipe could very well be considered the production company's property because of the changes they've made and whatever contract is involved.

No, with story 5, you’re just wrong. If someone puts in their own time, effort, resources and research into making something, and they’re not reimbursed for all that effort, only the end product, then the process belongs to the one who developed it. If they want to take their business to a competitor, that’s fine, but they don’t get to say “give me your process for free so that your competitor can make it for us the same way you do for less money.” Either the new place already has a process in place that they know they can use to make the product for less, or they’re going to make it their own way for less, but they don’t get to benefit from their competitor’s work so that they can undercut that same competition.

Story 3# ... ive been in a similar situation.. told pregnant lady that her pregnancy was the ONLY thing stopping me from kicking her ass..... .... I dont understand how people can be like that ... if not parents.. then school.. or kids cartoons should have taught her humanity

Story 3: Seriously? The test could be a false positive. I would love to see their face if it turned out that way so God would be laughing at her for being an attention whore. 3 live were lost, this ain't the time to seek attention. Hell a baby barely alive for months died. Good for op to point out that yes it's good that life is coming into the world but it's not the time to say it when 3 were lost. A lot could happen in 9 months so that cousin better be careful because karma will be wanting what's due. Story 4: Op is so not the jerk. I could understand to a certain point that he wanted to go back to his native tongue and finally relax. It's not op's fault that the girl lied. It's like how nerds finding someone that has something in common and want to talk about what they like. Story 5: I could get what the narrator is saying but I also get why the company did that to the client. They spend time and money on modifying the recipe to get the product the way the client want it but at this point, is it really the original recipe after changing it through the decades? if anything, it's more of the company's original recipe now based on the original recipe. Story 8: Yeah, friend kind of shot herself on the foot forgetting to tell op about not saying anything about the surgery to her husband. She's just pissed that the illusion is finally broken on her husband.

The third-story: OP showed far more restraint than I would have. Seriously, read the room. If the sister-in-law is so completely narcissistic that she can't compute in her brain that a funeral is not the place to announce her pregnancy and make the whole occasion all about herself, then I don't think there's really any hope for her. To literally go up to the grieving widow and mother and compare being an expectant parent to her three horrific losses is just beyond me. The ego on this woman! The unthinking, entitled selfish gall! OP roasted her and gave her a reality check. So what if she left in tears. I just can't even fathom someone using of all occasions, a funeral to announce their pregnancy and then draw attention to ourselves when everyone is obviously grieving. It's just beyond my comprehension. Something tells me, that the sister-in-law is an entitled parent in the making and the people enabling her will only coddle her behavior instead of vilifying it.
