Story time: We were out for dinner, amazing place and excellent food, not to mention really nice staff, we were towards the end of our meal when suddenly a woman walked near our table with the manger just after her. She looked at us, then at the table and the view (we were terrance dining and the view was *chef's kiss*) and she shouted I WANT THIS TABLE. We turned puzzled at her (please note the table near us was empty!) and the manager gave us a reassuraing look while calmly telling her 'I am sorry madame, this table is occupied as you can see' to which she cheekily replied 'NO THEY ARE FINISHED!' We were buffled while her husband and teeange daughter were dying with shame. But the manager told her 'No madame, they are ordering the desserts'. Needless to say, she took the hint and stambled to the other table while the manager turned to us and gently told us 'Sorry about that, please do TAKE your time to order the dessert, enjoy the view a little bit more' and smiled. Needless to say, we became regular customers and always make sure to tip well :)

Not so sure I agree, if her job was affiliated with McD’s or in customer services, maybe. Or if she was wearing something that represents who she works for. But otherwise, if it’s not within work hours or another parameter of her job, I don’t see how it’s truly justified for a video on the internet to get her fired. No, she shouldn’t throw a fit. Yes, she should be held accountable. But that doesn’t mean she should lose her livelihood. This sounds more like cancel culture in the extreme.

Several days later a video that was posted on Facebook was passed around to family members which showed the aunt berating the employee, screaming at him and calling him names. Nearly licked the plate clean, like there was zero food left. The lady then proceeded to remove her fake lashes and put them on her plate and demanded to speak to the owner (my dad). My dad walked over to the table where they started on their complaints and demanded free food. My dear ole dad, cool as a cucumber, looked that Karen in The face and said “if you can tell me which of my kitchen staff is missing eyelashes I’ll give you the dinner for free.” Knowing it’s all men working that kitchen shift and the manager who works the kitchen window (where waitstaff picks up the food once it’s ready and that window is fully visible to Karen) smiles and waves at her. Can confirm that the "there's a hair in my food I want it free" scam happens a lot. I remember one lady in particular who would come in for california sushi rolls: one particular weekend she came in, confronted our cashier, and dramatically produced a folded napkin. Inside was a long thin black hair. "THIS," she declared, "was in my sushi roll. I want a new one for free." "Do you still have the sushi roll with you, ma'am?" asked the cashier. "No," she said with an implied 'duh', "I already ate it." The cashier made a mental count to five, then replied as politely as she could, "Ma'am, that hair was not in the sushi roll. If it was, it would have been sliced to pieces along with the roll." The lady was not about to give up so easily, "then it must have fallen in while your staff were wrapping it up." The cashier was ready for this, and with dramatic effect called us forward from where we were watching the whole thing go down. We were a very small crew at the time, but as we stepped forward the lady could see that all of us - including the cashier - were mostly sporting very short hair. The only one of us who did not have hair that was dyed blond, red or silver was our sushi chef, and he was bald. "These are all the people who handle the sushi rolls," the cashier said. "That hair did not come from any of them." The lady said nothing, just staring down at the napkin with the long thin black hair on it. It did not get pass any of us that HER hair was long, thin and black. The cashier offered her a way out with a little dignity intact: "Would you like to buy another sushi roll? We'll make one completely fresh and let you inspect it beforehand." "Yes," was all she said. The cashier smiled and rang her up. Of course, she was back less than a month later with the same old scam, and this time roped in her daughter to help sell it. I mean for F's sake lady it's just sushi.

@@BreakofDawntruthfully the reason behind the steady frequency of hair scams is because half the time the food has been contaminated it's actually the establishment's fault. The company I work for has extremely strict food safety regs across all her outlets: not only do we need to have food safety and hygiene certification to work with food, we also need to cover our hair (head and arms), wear a mask and glove up. Unfortunately not everyone practices this, either to cut costs or simply carelessness. Whenever you go out to eat, make sure you protect yourself. Food handlers who make your sandwich AND work the cash register at the same time without gloves or at least washing their hands in between is a red flag. Cooks on duty who have really hairy arms or full heads of hair exposed for all to see are another red flag. If you can see something in your food that endangers your health, take a picture without further disturbing the food (as insurance if things go south), then discreetly draw attention to it. If you don't raise a ruckus the staff will still be wary but will also be quicker to listen and acknowledge the problem. Hair is just one in a long list of contaminants worth watching out for: metal, glass, synthetic fibers, mold, living/dead animals that aren't part of the meal's ingredients etc.

When I've asked for no onions, they either put them on anyway or give me a burger with nothing on it, just bread and meat. I never complained, I just stopped going there. We have an independently owned burger joint in our town that's been around since the 60s that's so much better and costs about the same, or less. A big 1/4 pound burger with a mound of perfectly seasoned crispy fries and a soda is $6.85. Their fried zucchini is a meal by itself! Places like this are rare nowadays.

You are right about people wanting something for nothing. We've just been on holiday at the seaside and at the pier seafood kiosk a lady ordered prawns said they were off and the ladies gave her replacements even though they're fresh. We ordered the big seafood platter for £50 and it was so nice - when the waitress came over I said there's nothing wrong with your food. We went back today too and even bought snacks for the ride home. So the complaining lady unfortunately didn't get karma but the lovely skeggy pier seafood ladies got good karma and lots of business from us! Xxx

The man who tried to help the woman with the paper towels and Sprite, reminds me of something that happened to me a few days ago. There was a homeless man sitting on the side of the road by the mall. We chatted for a second and he asked if I had any cash. I didn’t, so I was honest and said no. I felt like I wanted to get something for him though, because it was a hot, sunny day and he was sitting outside. So after finishing my shopping, I grabbed some cold sodas from the vending machine. One for me, and one for him. If he was still there, he’d get a cold soda. If not, I’d have two sodas. I offered it to him. He asked if I had any cash. I said, sorry, I don’t. And before I could even finish my sentence about how I didn’t have cash but I got him a soda since it was hot outside, he proceeded to scream and cuss at me, but then he took the soda anyway. Bruh. I understand that you’re frustrated that I didn’t give you what you wanted, but I was just trying to be nice. Bitching about it and scaring me does not make me feel more inclined to help, it makes me want to run away and not help anyone ever again.

The best sign I ever saw from a homeless person was, "I need money for beer." I started laughing and gave him a $5, and told him that was the most honest sign I had ever seen. Normally I wouldn't give them anything, but this was such a refreshing change from the 'need money for food" when you know they are just going to make a beeline for their drug of choice after they have enough cash.

I'm not homeless (yet) but I am poor and I take care of my disabled son who has schizophrenia and can't work. He was in the Navy for a little over a year but got an honorable discharge when his SO realized that my son was following orders from a "4 star general" who only he could hear. I'm grateful that Navy officers understood that he's mentally ill and treated him kindly. He's on medication and doing better, but I can't leave him alone for long. We depend on the $251 EBT we get a month for both of us, along with our monthly food bank boxes. I was ashamed to need help at first, until I found that most of my community also rely on food assistance, even with full-time jobs. One day at the gas station, I saw a lady offering to give a box of canned food to the homeless people begging for change, but none were interested and some even cursed at her. She looked at me, pumping gas into my beat up 20 year old Hyundai with a back window covered with vinyl because I can't afford to replace it, and asked if I wanted it. It was food she had just picked up from the food bank for her family, but they couldn't eat some of it because they're vegan. I very gratefully accepted the box and thanked her profusely! Obviously, she's low income like me but was generously sharing anyway. I got some cans of tuna, chicken, and shredded pork that I've learned to cook in a way to remove most of the fat and make delicious BBQ pork sandwiches or tacos. I couldn't believe those homeless people turned it down!

I was lined up to go through the McD's drive thru recently, there were two homeless men sitting right there and had a sign saying they were hungry. I felt the urge and so with my regular order I also ordered 2 McChicken sandwiches since they're buy one get one for a buck. When I passed back by that spot, I handed the bag to one of the men, told him there were 2 sandwiches in there, one for him and one for his friend and he was very grateful for it, thanking me for my generosity. Well during the time I was in the drive thru a 3rd man had joined the first 2 and I didn't know he was there. He heard me say there was 2 sandwiches and he started screaming at me, why didn't I get one for him too. I'm like dude, you were not here when I came by the first time, and then he was screaming at me to go back through and buy him a sandwich and I'm like no, I'm not going to do that. I drove away thinking, it's not my fault you weren't there before I went by, and with your screaming fit, I don't want to give you anything anyway.

My favorite personal Karen story... I used to work customer service in a call center for a large cell company in the U.S. This woman calls in and needed help with getting something on her phone to work. I'm working her through the steps, visually describing where things are because we are on the phone. She was calm and responding appropriately. All of a sudden she BLEW UP at me and started accusing me of treating her like she was stupid because she was disabled. Whaaaat? Literally did not know she was disabled until she made that comment. I then just listened to her rant because I was done at that point. She went on to say how she was going to be on the 6 o'clock news because she would supposedly be getting me fired. Lol, mam, you did not get me fired or get on the news for a problem you created in your head. God I hated that job and do not miss it.

My friend and I went to a buffet for lunch. I was eating my food and there was no issues until I found a long black hair in my mashed potatoes( my hair is red). Just so happens that the waitress had just came by our table and the look on her face was priceless. She apologized and offered to get the manager for me. I told her that it was all good and that I was just going to give her this plate and I would go make another plate. No worries. Things happen. It’s not like everything on the buffet was tainted because of one hair in the potatoes. I don’t understand people wanting free food over something so small.

I agree things happen but once I see a hair it's OVER! I'm not going to show out or anything but just the thought of hair in my food makes me queasy. One time I found a long curly hair in the middle of my bacon cheeseburger from BK. I took it back and showed them. I didn't want a refund because it was off the dollar menu so they gave me some cookies instead lol. People these days look for reasons to bitch and complain and make a scene. 9:52 I saw something like that the other day. We're a sweet small town full of people who help each other. This lady from out of town had a basket FULL. It looked like grocery Tetris. It was magical. It was windy as hell outside. One of our employees, who is black, asked if she needed help with her groceries as I was checking her out. She said, "Not from your kind." and I was floored. She was having trouble with putting her groceries back in her cart and had to use a second cart. She asked me if I could push her second cart to her car, to which I replied, "No, ma'am. You don't need help from my kind. I may not be black, but we're a family here in this store and he is my kind." She asked to speak to my boss, who had already heard what was happening, and he told her that I was right to refuse her and the only thing I did wrong was completing her order. She was banned from the store and her husband came later that day to apologize to me, my boss, and my fellow employee. My fellow employee and I were both given $20 in compensation and we both took it and said, "She needs to learn to be better." Oh, my city is dominantly black.

I worked in a small office with a woman who was actually named Karen. Since the office only had 5 or 6 employees at any one time we would order lunch together a couple times a week. We'd give one person the orders for each of us and money (usually our credit or debit cards) and they'd pick it up then we'd eat at a big table in our Manager's office. After lunch we'd all go back to the section of the office which had 2 columns of cubicles (we sold advertising by phone). Almost every time after these lunches the first call Karen would make would be to the restaurant to complain about her meal and she would not stop until they gave in and refunded her. Mind you, we all saw her finish every bite of her meal and she never uttered a single complaint while scarfing it down. I wish karma had visited her with some food poisoning or something. 😂

Karma goes both ways! I’m passionate about living wages and respecting the service industry (as someone in it 😅), so I try to make a point to tip above the standard 18% when I’m able. The other night, my friend and I made a mad dash to one of the last restaurants open (our fault lol) and it was a family owned and operated little dive with amazing food and a super sweet older gentleman waiting on us. We felt so bad, I tipped way extra to make up for it. The guy was SO grateful, he personally thanked us and then offered us two VERY generous shots from the bar 🤩 The next day, we had a terrible experience at a riverside cafe. Honestly a situation where we had every right to be demanding and make a scene (terrible food, missing ingredients, weird waitress, overpriced and served in plastic, etc)…but we didn’t. I felt bad and didn’t want to make the waitress feel bad, so I said I’d pay for the food, we just wouldn’t be eating it. She got our meal comped and we still tipped a little extra for her trouble. At the next restaurant, we hit it off with the manager who was also our server and she gave us an employee discount 🤩 Not once did we ever ask for anything-we just wanted to have a great time and let our servers know we appreciated them. Kindness pays, people.

Not gonna lie, that hair story at the end I’ve had the same thing happen. I was a waitress at a salad bar restaurant years ago, and on this shift it was me, the female manager and one female chef. We all have long hair but of course tied back. This blonde woman and her very much blonde daughter came in at lunch time and ordered food, and then after digging in “found” a hair in their food… A BLONDE hair. Now I explained that as sooty as I am for this, but it couldn’t be any of our (who was working) hairs as we all had coloured hair. The woman got made at me and said “I know it’s not yours as your brown, but what about the chef!” So I called both the chef and the manager to step out as we were the only ones on shift, and they came to apologise to the table for the oddly found blonde hair. The woman and her daughter went pale when they saw my boss and chef had BRIGHT purple hair and Jet Black Hair. After they left I did mention how the hair did match their own. The woman paid the full bill and left right away. - no tip but 😂 don’t try and F with me. 😂 I will be passive aggressive or just sarcastic with you. (I was “great” waitress.)😂😂😂😂

For hangry Ketchup Karen: what @InsigVIDS said, "She asked for extra ketchup, got extra ketchup, then complained about it," is absolutely right. But when she addressed the issue though, she only complained about the staff. Not once did she ever address what she did. She got nailed because of her irrational behavior.
