Another tip for keeping your EDC updated is to keep a list of anything that expires or is out of season. Every member of our family has their own EDC kits, Bugout/Get Home bags, and Go Bags. Our Bugout/Get Home bags has our emergency gear in them, our Go Bags are things like clothes, toiletries, etc., for going to the hospital unexpectedly or gas leaks, or other leave quick scenarios. Go Bags are left at home (but ready to go when needed), Bugout/Get Home bags are in our vehicles, and EDCs are carried with us. We also carry bigger first aid kits, trauma kits, spare set of clothes that are vacuum sealed, travel toiletries, etc., in our tote bag that is in all of our vehicles. We also carry water, Gatorade, and snacks in plastic containers in all vehicles.

Great suggestions. I like to e-mail myself when I know something needs to be changed out. It doesn't leave my inbox until it's done. That way I'm sure that I'm as up-to-date as I can be.

Oh you are so rt, those "lovies" are not only needed for the child but the parents too. Both my girls had one but my oldest daughter had one type of little people doll that she had to have. Bless my brothers heart once she was attached to this doll he bought everyone he could find, as did I.. yes there was a PT I had 10+dolls but trust me, I needed them. Keeping the kids calm and feeling safe is so important.

"It's just a graduation up from a diaper bag" OMG that is priceless!! Thanks to Jon and Kylene for bringing this treasure to us. I don't need a fire starter on my EDC near as much as I need a wet wipe. I too use those small makeup bags to organize my purse. I never want to have everything spill out all over the floor if my purse gets knocked over. I carry wasp spray - it sprays further and has the same affect. My QUESTION for Karen is, "How much does your EDC bag weigh?"
@AreYouPreparedMama2 күн бұрын
Well, we've normalized diaper bags. Now, my purse has become my EDC bag. It's almost identical in concept! 😂🎉😊

Such a generous and thoughtful lady, and smart plan! The hardest part of preparedness for me is organization. I have all the “stuff” - Karen’s guidance will take care of most of my issues with putting it together in a reasonable EDC. Off to Amazon to order her book. Thank you, Kylene and Jonathan! With great appreciation, always. 🙏❤️

I use hardshell eyeglass cases for a lot of things, 2 sets of baby spoon and fork, with a pen knife, other things for eating, ( people have made fun because of the baby things). Also a small collapsing metal cup. In other eyeglass cases, extra batteries, band-aids of different sizes. Those are in my car cubbies. I also have a number of jackets and nylon hoodie that fold into their own pockets. I have collected a lot of folded self contained things.
@AYearWithoutTheGroceryStore10 сағат бұрын
That sounds like a great idea. Or you could use something like a used Altoids tin to keep stuff like that in too.

@AYearWithoutTheGroceryStore any type of container that will close tight. My son uses chewing tobacco and he gets new empty cans with each tub. Ideal for some change or medication. In this day and age no one will mess with tobacco stuff. (I also keep quarters in a prescription bottle for emergency).

I have three EDC bags. First, is light day bag with no over night gear. Second, bigger bag, heavier still a back pack, has more stuff, including over night gear for one night. Third is a tote box in the car with seven days food, gear, over night, more basic stuff, basically a camp kit to camp for seven days but in the car, which is usually with me. Fourth is my 15 acre water access off grid nature retreat in Northern MN with a years supply of food, fuel, and all things I would need.

That's a great idea! Some ladies still like to look like 'normal' (Is there such a thing? LOL) moms, so having regular laces with carrying boot laces is my work around. 😂😊

In regards to protection, a police officer suggested to carry hair spray instead of pepper spray. Pepper spray is a weapon that could have restrictions depending on where you are while hairspray is an everyday item used for styling that is just as effective as a weapon. She would say there are no laws against carrying hairspray for hair emergencies. All you need is that second to get away from someone.
@JoanWakefield12 сағат бұрын
Waspspray works very well also.

Thank you for readdressing the term EDC.
@AreYouPreparedMama2 күн бұрын
While I understand where the term came from, I think it was short-sighted (forgive the pun). It's so much more robust than simply having a firearm.

I can't keep water in the car during winter because it'll freeze and bust . I need something to wrap it in that might help
@teresaremaniak8562 күн бұрын
If you only partially fill your water container and squeeze the container so that the water level moves to the top , it allows for expansion caused by freezing. Freezing will not cause the container to break. Have done this with milk, water, and other liquids for years. Try it and leave the bottle in a waterproof bag in case you’re concerned. It works.😊
@kokonutkelly75262 күн бұрын
Keep it in a small cooler, that way if it bursts, it’s still contained.
