You can see them all over YT. Most cops are, it is just a few who screw it up for all of them. I have never personally had one treat me in any way but respectfully, but then I treat them that way, too. I did have one absolutely lunatic cop go off on me one day, and I just said, "Got it", and drove away...and then reported him, relating the incident. I wish I had had a video, to point out how bad it was. Even then, not escalating just turned it into a brief encounter.

These people can easily take an innocent life with their thoughtless behaviour. In addition, they can damage a life beyond repair. I was hit by a drunk driver 38 years ago, and, although I'm grateful to be alive, I have been in pain every minute since. On a good day, I can sit in my wheelchair for a half hour or so. The rest of the time , I'm in a hospital bed. I was fortunate to have recovered my mental faculties after many years, but life is a challenge. I still wonder if that driver ever recovered from his drinking problem.

That’s one thing that amazes me most about these videos. Even the worst of the worst - those that all of us would argue *don’t* deserve it - most professional officers still act professional and treat as if they didn’t just lead 40 officers on a high speed pursuit risking countless lives. The pessimist in me makes me think it’s just to keep them as calm as possible until they’re locked into the back of a squad. Then again, in a perfect world, it’s not law enforcements job to inflict regardless of how big a piece of $hit the suspect may be. I guess what I’m trying to say is, 98% of cops in these videos have the patience and restraint of god damn saints.

Don’t converse be direct and don’t let the driver run your traffic stop - get them off the road as fast as possible . The last dui found me and left me to die on the side of the road . I worried someone I worked with or my parents knew would see me. My BAC at the jail was .24 !!! This was just shy of losing your license for DUI b4 laws got stricter. I'd like to say I never drove drunk again and tho rare I'd be lying if I claim I didnt. I'm beyond relieved I didn't take any lives. It wasn't until I was 42 that I admitted I was an alcoholic and needed help. Didn't have legal problems but my life was a mess. I also had 3 young kids and wasn't abusive but my neglect was shameful. I wasn't present even when there. I watch these videos to remind me what a mess I was and that if I relapse I will go down fast and be even worse. I cherish bad days sober more than any good days drunk. I stay involved in a 12 step program still bc my disease is cunning, powerful, baffling, insidious and very patient. I've been sober 26 yrs now. Watching this girl is a mirror image and I'm glad I'm not her today. Best tho is I have joy in my life with my 4 grandkids and was there for my dad and then mom when they left this world. There's lots of peace in that.
