Central African Republic, Libya, Somalia, South Sudan, and Mali would be places to avoid at all costs. If it's a "doctors without borders" kind of scenario, these brave men and women go into the hot spot of Africa to try and help and provide care for HIV and tuberculosis patients, as well as victims of sexual violence. While deployed to Africa, my unit was tasked with rescuing American doctors out of Northern Mali and Niger during the Tuareg rebellion in 1990.

Story 4: Geographer here. The US is always low in the GPI (Global Peace Index). The most recent report 2020-present) had the United States ranked 131 out of 163 countries measured. In the 2010's era the US ranked 128 out if 163 countries. The methodology is very thorough and has 11 indicators that are ranked. Some of these are: number of jailed individuals per 100k, number of & duration of internal conflicts, the number duration, and role in external conflicts (all one indicator), number of homicides per 100k people, & political instability. Those are just some. For more context - 40 of the 54 countries in Africa are above the United States. All that said, it really depends where OP goes. Many African countries are very safe & have not only beautiful scenery, but beautiful people that have some of the kindest souls around. Always remember that the government and the citizens are two separate entities that are totally different - what you think about a country and how it is usually isn't - they rarely think the same. OP I am honestly extremely jealous of you (😊) and hope you have a safe and wonderful time! Please go! You will definitely not regret it. Last story: My son and his girlfriend had planned on going on a 4-day/3-night cruise with another couple. He and his GF broke up, rather amicably, before the cruise. You can't get a refund for a cruise, nor did his GF want to go alone with another couple, so, they offered me the ticket. It was my birthday present. His GF and I had always gotten along, so, it was decided. Well, I was dating a guy at the time this happened. We were both in our 40's, so we weren't young people. I told him they were giving me the ticket and when we were supposed to go. He didn't say much about it at the time. The night before the cruise, I had been getting my things ready to go. I had my own home but stayed with him often, so I had a lot of my things there. I spent the night with him. The next morning, he told me that, if I chose to still go on the cruise, to not come back to his house. I think I laughed at the time. I went on the cruise and never went back! The way I look at it, if he is so narrow-minded, or selfish, or whatever, to deny someone a chance to do something out of the norm at no cost to themselves, he didn't have my best interests in mind.

Story 4: If she is in the US, there is the possibility she is even saver than at home. Even if she doesnt go, I would recommend her leaving him. There are much better Men out there. Story 1: I honestly have no idea why your manager would need to fire you. You were doing your job. And honestly, they were the ones who were rude. I don't understand how it is considered to be bad customer service to tell someone "have a good night" when they leave the store. If you're questioned about it, just explain it to the manager and have them check the cameras for good measure. If you do get fired, then perhaps it's for the best because if the managers are just going to side with a rude jerk of a customer, they aren't really a good employer are they?

I think all restaurants should start adding a "jerk/karen charge" to their ticket system. That way if someone is being a pain or problematic, they can charge them for being a pain in the ass. As a precaution, make it require management or senior wait staff approval so waiters can't just slap in on people willy nilly. But i do think it is something that should become industry standard.

1st Story - If the Karen chose to get OP fired for nothing, then Op should sue her for Slander. 2nd Story - If I was a Customer and I saw a Manager loosing it on a Worker for no reason, I would leave a one star review and mention about the Manager's attitude towards her Employees. 3rd Story - A perfect example of "If it's not broken, do not fix it". But instead the Company tried to fix it, and ended up ruining everything. 4th - As much as I hate to say it, but this Relationship is one sided and it's just about ready to sink. all he cares about is HIMSELF. If he loved you, he would trust you and let you do your own things. But that's not what is happening here. He's like "You're not going and that's final". Honey, you either need to wake this guy up to Reality and made him realise that you're a human being with rights as much as he does, or you're going to have to cut ties with him.

Story #2 my dad and I went out to a place for breakfast once, and we got in there and started looking at the menu. There was no sharing of plates. Mind you there's no buffet here, so why the hell the owner cared what people did with their own food, I'll never know. If you wanted another plate to put food on you got charged another dollar. I once ordered a ceasar salad at a little restaurant chain. I never ate there before but i heard of it and paid it a visit. My salad came and it was really great, the dressing tasted wonderful, it had loads of cheese on it, homemaked croutons that tasted great. Also the portion size was even bigger than i expected, and its prize was like 10 bucks. For a salad of that quality i would have paid even more because it was really tasty and good looking. I would have at least paid double the price of what was presented to me. Now to that lady complaining about a 12-16 bucks salad. I say it bluntly and honestly, go starve, you are a terrible customer. If something is worth the money you should just pay it or get lost. You are not the one to complain about the pricing of an item on the menu if you very well know that you where the one paying this restaurant a visit. If you dont like the price then cook for yourself.

Story 1: People just go out to restaurants to be massive jerks. I would've thrown them out before they even started with the whole not sharing rule and whatnot. Sometimes it should be allowed for servers to be rude to customers that are rude to them... i always love/hate the false claims like that. Here's hoping the OP doesn't get fired over this stupid Karen.... and if they do, id consider a wrongful termination suit against the restaurant. Restaurant staff get treated so poorly by both customers and management and they really need to start fighting back Story 2: Want extra? Pay extra! Simple as that. On one hand, I can see why your boss would get mad at you for giving away free sauces... it is rude and does effect many things overall. I know some kitchens i've worked at absolutely refused to give out sauces unless they were rung in.... but as for the bosses attitude and screaming all the time, that doesn't sound like its a good place to be at. Now, as for the grouchy Karen that didn't like the price..... just don't eat there... complaining about the price isn't a good form of haggling, as it seems many customers, especially older ones try to do. Story 3: Don't pay or offer overtime? Don't work overtime! Period!!! Overtime pay and hours are the biggest way employers screw over their employees, whether its break time or not. Higher ups in management/corporate like that always think they'll save a dollar or two, not knowing how the job works and end up costing them a ton. Story 4: Ok, I can see both sides here, but i think the bf here is being a bit of a jerk and a bit over-protective and borderline controlling. A lot of "safe" countries in Africa still can be dangerous, even if doing volunteer work, so i can understand why the bf would be concerned about the OP going, but the way he is handling it is totally unacceptable.... even threatening to end the relationship? That's just too much. Hopefully the OP goes to Africa anyways and has a good volunteer experience.

I have a story This karen says to me and my friends that she works at my school. This day, me and my freinds we're going to the park to play. At my school there is 2 parts of the playground, the big part and the small part. Me and my friends arrived at the playground. And we went to the small part. 30 minutes later, this mother and her kids arrive at the big playground. My freinds bikes are on the big playground. So we didn't think much of it, so we kept playing songs and dancing. Then a few moments later, the kids found the bikes and started kicking them. We didn't notice till we heard the sound, I looked over and I saw them kicking the bikes. I started to walk over to the bikes, and taped on the mothers shoulder. And I said to her "excuse me? Your kids are kicking my friends bikes." And she said "Excuse me I'm on the phone." I was chill when she said that, and I said "ok I can wait." A minute later she is done with her phone call. And she said "now what?" And I said "ma'am your kids are kicking my friends bikes, can you tell them to stop please?" She said "well it'd not bothering you, is it?" And I was mad at this point, and I said "yes these bikes are my friends, and I would like if your kids would not kick them." And I've been at the school for 3 years, and she said "I work here, I can have the principal suspend you." And I know the principal and its my mom's freind. I have never seen this lady work here before. So I was mad and I said to her "ma'am I have never seen you work here, and I know the principal, better than anyone in the school. And I've been here for a long time." At this point my friends walked up and took their bikes from the kids. The kids started kicking my friends and wanted the bike back, and the mother said "GIVE MY CHILDREN THEIR TOYS BACK! I WILL GET YOU ALL EXPELLED I WORK HERE!" and that was the last straw, so I said "what's your name Mrs.Karen?" And she chased us out of the park. So tell me, am I the jerk?

Sounds like a good restaurant to work or eat at but that seems to be the trend nowadays people are charging for everything even my local Chinese joint charges if you want extra duck sauce or soy sauce. I used to work at an auto plant and Sani Services handled their cafeteria and if you ordered eggs and toast in the morning they would charge you $0.10 for every little square packet of jelly I'm sorry I think there's a point we're trying to charge for every little thing you're going to aggravate customers than won't come back and you'll cut your nose off to spite your face

The boyfriend threatening to break up with her if she goes on the trip is probably cheating on her, or is secretly into someone else, and is looking for something to validate breaking up with her when there really isn't anything to justify it. Either that or he's jealous that she has a chance to live her dreams while he's stuck taking classes and can't go anywhere.. Either way, his threats to break up over this issue are a major red flag, and whether a sign of jealousy or looking for an excuse to get out of the relationship, it's manipulative and overbearing, and could indicate how he will behave, possibly even to a greater degree if they stay together, or get married. Her question shouldn't be whether there is a way to salvage things, but rather should she even bother attempting to salvage them. She should call his bluff. Flat out tell him that she's going and that he can do what he wants. And if he does break off that she'll be happy for dodging a bullet with him. Throw it back on him and make him squirm. If he really values her, he'll concede the point. If not, then she'll know it.

Hell, i wouldn't want my girlfriend going to Africa either...or any other third world country for that matter, but especially not Africa. Think about it, It's a place with every disease known to man (and probably several that don't even have names yet), it's a place where slavery is still alive and well, a place where nobody will question someone disappearing, and the only place on earth where the word "warlord" is an actual title and not just a rank in world of warcraft. No, I definitely wouldn't want my GF going there, especially not alone. I'd have to go with her, or her nearest male family member, that'd be the only way i'd be ok with it.

In the last story the boyfriend sound like a freaking child!!!!, going to do volunteer work in another country is an amazing opportunity and it's very fulfilling as well not only being able to travel but getting to meet people from different cultures and learning their country. It sounds like he's either controlling her or he wants to be babied by making her stay behind honestly if he's threatening to break up simply over a two to three-week business trip I would say kick rocks and then keep it moving!

As far as the last story is concerned, she is begging her boyfriend to be on board, yet she's going BY HERSELF to a nation that is known for promiscuity with no internet access or any way to contact. Yeah if I were the bf, I'd be suspsicious too. Especially if she is saying she wants to go by herself. Three weeks is enough time to get involved with someone else, which is super easy to do in Africa. That would be her going to have a girl's night out where there are guys around and her not inviting me. No Sir! The relationship is over then.
