Not all Black leaders either. i have to use discernment in who's giving solid advice, ideas and information and who's talking foolishness. A lot of our behavior is based on the "me and now mentality" which is why we engage in a lot of mischief and illegal behavior because the "me and now" want short term gains and won't do long term gains type of work. My two cents. Keep the change.

I think one thing which may help on this topic is simply clarifying one goal at a time that is affecting the black community at this time like say good and safe health care or public schools in our communities. Having one focus may help galvanize the many different ideologies. But mainly having respected leadership to show receipts of actions that have worked that helped the community and people may follow and add to the cause. Kind of like the civil rights movement and even NOI people saw positive small changes and joined in the cause to make other things happen better for the community

I think one of the biggest issues facing black america is whats next. What is the vision and the goal. We understood slavery had to end. So almost all black people are in that boat rowing in the same direction to end slavery. Then we are rowing together to end Jim Crow and segregation. But since 65 we have been in a bit of a wilderness. The major issue facing our people at this time is our hardened caste system and our system of economic segregation. Black people get less than 2% of all contracts federally, state or local. We also get almost zero contracts from the private sector. We also dont get hired even for the menial jobs we could get in the 70's and 80s because of the additional workforce from recent immigrants since 1965. Take a look at any construction site anywhere. Those people he named as our supposed thought leaders arent addressing this. Alicia Garza has a survey out right now that asks you to vote for your biggest concern. None of the options were related to the wealth gap. So are we really going to go back and tell the world we voted and our biggest concern is democracy? or LGBT rights? or police violence? First figure out what you want and then go demand it. They mean to have us sitting around and voting and having this same conversation for another 400 years. It really aint that hard. Per the constitution the majority of the power in this country is based on geography. See the electoral college, states rights, and the senate for example. We arent even geographically set up to win as a group. I hear no imagination. Either come all the way together or spread all the way out. Everyone get on the drum beat of economics. These companies could start doing hiring and contract initiatives tomorrow without any policy change if we add pressure. If we demand it. As individuals and groups our lives are about figuring out what we need and want and making a plan to get it. Its getting desperate out here so people are listening to anyone that pops up. But if you guys came up with an actual objective and plan to achieve that objective people will follow as we did with the civil rights movement. People will sign up for the war but need a clear picture of what they fighting for. I'll vote however you want if you tell me its part of a bigger specific plan or not vote at all. I'm down to row just need to know what we doing.

Greetings and thanks. Branding. When it comes to artists and public figures, I think we have largely failed to recognize and understand the meaning of the word itself. There is a significant difference between what a person expresses or promotes and what a branded entity is free and able to do and say. It is possible that we have been conditioned, over time, to accept that "branding" is somehow beneficial- and even necessary- in order to gain the right to even build any platform from which we can effectively reach the people and influence our "audience", "fan base" or "consumers" of information with any message. In my view, once we allow ourselves to be "branded", we become slaves to the aims and demands of markets and corporate interests- sacrificing our own humanity and undermining/ betraying confidence and trust among ourselves.
