My Africana studies class was going horribly at ASU, but I trust the ancestors(thanks to THIS class) so I kept attending class, even when the instructor didn't. They have now fired the instructor! I'll tell you how the ancestors work, our new instructor is a graduate of Temple University. She was taught by none other than the great Dr. Greg Carr for a brief 2wks before he was ousted by another faculty head that shall remain nameless! Rather than reading "Diasporic Africa" we are now reading "Assata" and a book called "The Dark End of the Street". She's only been my professor for 1 class but its already off to a greater start! Shout-out to Dr.Carr for leaving an impact even when he gets hated on! Peace-N-Love to this whole community! Thank you professors!!!!

Ms. Zora’s stance was spot on. We had the most generic Black History teachings in school, West Rusk ISD, in east Texas. It was a predominantly white school, mind you I was born and raised in Henderson Texas but my mom insisted we went there. She even paid transfer fees for us to attend, we’d wake up at 5 am to be transported to a family members house to catch the bus and everything🤦🏽‍♀️. Best believe we learned Texas history and EVERY year we learned/relearned about the schools explosion of 1938. I remember questioning why they bragged about Hitler sending his condolences and displaying his letter in the museum across the street, but of course... However my older sister, 3 years older, finished her last year in our hometown and it was that year that SHE taught me about Medgar Evers. Since then I sought the history on my own. Oh and 8th grade our ONLY history “taught” was the showing of Roots...no discussion. Shame shame shame, I am so intrigued by these lessons. My Grandpa and Aunties taught us too. Every year since we could walk my Grandpa took us to the Juneteenth celebration in Henderson. I need these for my children, nieces, nephews and family. I’m gonna be the elder sitting around the tree like my Aunties teaching these lessons🥰💖💖💖💖

I went to school here 3rd and 4th grade with mix group of teachers and a black principle, now my children have no black teachers, administrators at all. If we did not take the time and educate our children at home before and after they go to school, they would never be able to successfully attend college. There is an continuous war on black minds down her in Tennessee. Thank you Karen and Dr. Carr for this classes. Blessings and Love

Karen, you and Dr. Carr are on point regarding creating our own educational institutions to take control of our education for all of us - all ages. I look at how much I’ve learned in the 2 hr sessions you provide on Saturdays. Can you imagine what we could for our community, especially our youth if we committed to 4hrs of a kinda of Montessori model Saturday class structured like yours - creative conversations to include Q&A. You all provide books and resources to expand the knowledge you’re dropping. This could include discussions about the M word that we don’t want to talk about - money. The two of you have found the key and it’s captivating. I am adamant about putting people on to your class and I won’t stop. Thank you x a milly.👏🏾

Mixed feelings on the Amend Documentary but the one thing I really liked about it is that they emphasized the much overlooked fact that during the women's right to vote in the early 1900s, the white women shunned black women back then only to want to reunite with them in the 1970s for women's rights. This is such an important fact of history that Americans seem to overlook constantly!

I listen and relisten to your classes every week. Especially THIS session about United States v Billie Holliday. Then I watched the movie last night. Now, I’m relistening to critique the movie. Interesting! I read “Jazz and Justice” by Gerald Horne last summer. Great book.

I believe that, fairly recently, a division of the United Nations did declare the treatment of African Americans a human rights offense. The thing is that nothing is done after these declarations.

I was just wondering why nothing more has been done in this respect. What can we do now? Where do we start?

episode 52 that's 1 full year, that an anniversary 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 it 2021 , we are work towards 22. just as time change , our black minds have to change. we have become aware of the evils of colonialism, we are aware of the corporation benefiting. some of us don't want to accept that knowledge and won't change

Dennis your question is on point. We do need to be deemed as human beings 1st and foremost. Not civil rights

Greetings from Senegal to Carr and Hunter. Sorry to be a latercomer to this fantastic underground educational railway. I just discovered it through my brother's latest trip to the US. He recommended your platform as a must for information sources about us Africans. I'll get online on Saturdays for more. Thank you so much.
