Once I found turkey roasting bags...I never looked back! It works GREAT every time. I really liked the way you stuff it with onions and celery...adding sage and poltry seasoning. I will add that this year for sure!!! I always slather the turkey with butter inside and out...put it in the bag, cut slits in the bag, put in oven and let it cook...works every time! No messy pan the clean up.

I've been cooking turkeys all wrong all these years. I always thought you have to keep basting the turkey every 20 minutes or so which makes it so much more complicated. It seems by covering it with tin foil it was self basting. It looked moist and browned perfectly. Now I'll try your version this Thanksgiving!

....loved the Intro, Miss Karen ! So creative and tells what this Episode is ! I think it's such a good idea to show how you do everything, for maybe some viewers who have not made thier own Thanksgiving Turkey. I also Season my butter, I just think it gives more depth of flavour. I also add Orange slices , as well onion slices and a bit of celery ...and half a stick of butter, lol. ( those Oranges just add something extra! ) I always roasted my Turkey whole, that's what I prefer. I agree with not trusting that Themometer on the Turkey, I always cook it longer. I found some clear gloves that are used for food prep ,and I use those a lot, I think it's good to use gloves for certain types of prep, especially with the Butter, lol. I don't stuff my Turkey, with dressing, I make that separate. Looks delicious, I was getting hungry,Miss Karen lol ! Mr. Jones did a fine job of carving ! Thank you both for a lovely visit to your Home ! 🙏🏻😊🍽🍗🍛

I’ve started wearing gloves to keep all the goop from getting under my fingernails. I do that with meatloaf and even biscuits sometimes. I cook my turkey whole, basted with seasoned butter and covered in foil until the last 45 minutes. I uncover it to let it brown good. I cook mine at 325 for 15 minutes per pound. Same with my ham. This looks so yummy. I’m fixing the ham this year, my son ordered a wild turkey from D’Artagnan Foods. They have the best duck breast and Guinea legs too. Expensive but once a year is worth it. Years ago I gave up on cooking a whole turkey. Now I cut it into pieces pat dry, season and cook in a deep cookie sheet. Cook about half way with skin side down, butter and seasonings packed on, then turn it skin side up, brush with butter in the pan to finish. Pieces come out much moister and are easier to cut than when you do a whole bird. I never stuffed a turkey anyway so baking it on the side is no problem

Thank you Karen for this delicious, baked turkey recipe! I think sage and poultry seasonings marry very well together; and I like how you start working in the center of the bird first. Very interesting also is the fact that you essentially apply butter under the skin (top) which allows it to melt throughout. And the stuffing; I assumed you would have to sew the turkey closed, but no. So many wonderful, easy ideas here to try. Really easier than I anticipated! Blessings.

We obviously don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Ireland since its a holiday unique to North America, so I associate Turkey with Christmas. Have you ever tried roast potatoes? In Ireland and Great Britain, we pre-boil the potatoes in boiling salted water, not to cook them, as they only stay in the water about 10 mins. We cut the potatoes in larger chunks. After 10 mins, drain your potatoes and in the pot they cooked, place the lid on and move the potatoes about inside the pot, so they get a bit smashed on the outside, they'll still be uncooked and firm. But on a roasting pan, using some duck or goose fat that you've been heating up on the roasting pan inside the oven, take the potatoes you par-boiled and spread them over the roasting pan and roast in the oven until fork tender. They will be crispy and golden on the outside and fluffy inside and they pair great with roast meat and gravy.

Sounds delicious. I love roasted potatoes but have never used this method. I think I will be in the future. Thanks 😉🧡

Karen, I am curious why you said you wouldn’t want to go over 12 pounds on a turkey. Is it because the larger turkey’s aren’t as tender. We have 7 adults and some children to serve on Thanksgiving and it takes a larger turkey to feed that many. We like to have leftovers as well. Maybe it would be better to bake 2 smaller turkeys instead of a large one. What do you think or advise?

@@KarenJonesFoodFamily Yes! My mama made the best egg custard pie. I never attempted one but I might now...lol. Thank you for making me a better cook and it's so nice to share memories of our loved ones through food. We all appreciate you so much on here : )

What kind of poultry seasoning are you using?
@KarenJonesFoodFamily2 жыл бұрын
I normally use McCormick or Spice Island which is favorite of the two. Sometimes I will use store brand but I like these better. ❤️😋

You all folks, save all the bones and bits to make Turkey broth. I think my husband likes the Turkey soup more than Turkey dinner.😊

Make great soup or just broth if you want. ❤️😋

Your turkey looks so delicious! I think there is a difference in poultry seasoning. What brand do you like and use? Also, I didn’t hear you say what kind of broth you poured in your pan. I want to try to do mine this way this year.

I usually use Spice Island seasoning. If I'm not using homemade broth I'll use Swanson or Sam's brand is very good also. ❤️
