Watching your videos has been such an inspiration to me. I’ve been suffering with severe depression for a long time and your videos inspired me to pick up a sketch book and do some art for the first time in 20 years. Since then I feel like a different person! I feel so much lighter and more alive than I have done in a very long time. And tomorrow I’m taking a class on life drawing! Thank you for the inspiration! I’ve been stuck in a deep abyss for years and for the first time I feel like things are getting better. Thank you so much!

Nicely informative. Love how you experience "problems" while painting, but work with them and how you explain how not to panic, but either fix or use the mistakes or rather issues that crop up.

These remind me of Derwent's ink tense sticks. Those are fun and strongly pigmented as well.

I tried the Graf for an underpainting it created amazing depth. Thanks for the tip! I have a question about your reference photos. How do you get them to be so small when you print them? Are you printing on regular paper? I’d like to learn more about your process please.
@KarenMargulis2 жыл бұрын
Great suggestion! I'll plan on a video with more but yes I print them on regular paper and use the Mac photo program to put several photos on one page.

Could you explain your basic set up? It looks like your sanded paper is mounted on a board covered with cloth. I suppose the cloth is to help catch chalk dust. Maybe? Thanks for your inspiring tutorials.
@KarenMargulis2 жыл бұрын
The cloth is just for looks to cover up an ugly table! I use the folded foamcore under my board to collect the dust. I use a piece of chalkboard for the support board. I get it at Home Depot

Hi Margulis, what paper is best for doing underpainting with water ? I used some paper and it became all wavy from the water
@KarenMargulis2 жыл бұрын
I like to use LuxArchival sanded paper. I doesn't not get wavy. If you use another sanded paper it is best to mount it on a board. There are videos on how to do this. Thanks so much for watching!!

Is part of the reason for using art graf in the under painting that it costs less than the pastels? I am a complete newbie so I am asking because it just seems like you could do the same thing with the pastels.
@KarenMargulis2 жыл бұрын
I like the Art Graf for the variation it gives. I like the contrast between the wet underpainting and opaque pastel. The art grad is compressed ink so it gives a different effect from wet pastel.

Please, clarify. The TAILOR SHAPE Monochromatic set comes in graphite, white and black colors. Which pigment is used for each color and toxicity information for them. Thank you for sharing.
