Thank you for an amazing uTube on this very important project. I wish I could have contributed to this work. Thank you to Zambezi River Authority, Zimbabwe Government, Zambian Government, Global Gateway and the EU for recognizing the risk the dam posed to the people of the area and doing such a spectacular job of mitigating it. I don't agree that this is the first project of this type undertaken in the world. In about 1980 there was a similar problem at Kyle dam in Zimbabwe we attempted similar rehabilitation work there. I am concerned about the safety of other dams in Zimbabwe, I left the Ministry of Water Development there in 1981 together with 41 other engineers and technicians who all left in a 2 month period. I think many other dams in the country may be posing a safety risk and I would be reassured to know that safety inspections and rehabilitation work was been done on the many beautiful dams in the country.

I wonder!...Why would they not also..... fill the splash pool with the greatly proven "Dolosh" that has greatly proven itself in South African coastal regions... I think...that filling the extended "Splashpool" with these "Doloshes" would greatly Act as a breakwater...thus Reducing, erosion and further incalfing of the splaspool! #HermanLombaard

That scouring effect was known about when the dam was built and it was thought it that it must be done in about 30 years. . But of course no provision was made and whaddyou know? The Mlungus came to the rescue.

I wonder if the dam will ever overflow again. The water is being consumed faster than it can be stored.

can you siphon water from the ocean into the lake?

Not sure if it is true or not..... but i heard that the guy who designed or built Kariba dam killed himself because one of his other dams collapsed. I'd be relocating the people down river..... the people of Mozambique will suffer terribly when this dam collapses. The Mighty Zambezi will be reunited again, as foreseen.

I have another Idea, 😂😂😂😂 Why not extend the Sluice Gates another 50 to 100 metres.
@pierios8264 ай бұрын
It will cause another plunge pool , erosion will eventually move backwards again causing the same problem, by creating a path for the water in the new plunge pool it will just move the water forward. A lot of Calculating goes into this it's not just that simple.
@gamainmagagula50104 ай бұрын
Same effect will happen, dude over wider area
@philtucker12244 ай бұрын
Why would that change the situation? - you are just extending the potential damage area. The eroded base of the dam foundations needed immediate reinforcements.

When European countries were building dams around the world Chinese and Russian were using nafta lamps and running on donkeys wagons.....

@Batshite_crazy my point was that I have read a lot of criticism about Europeans building lousy dams or other projects in Africa ( suggesting rasizm..) and now Africans are forced to pay and repair it.....
@Batshite_crazy4 ай бұрын
@@ww5302 You do realize this dam produces huge amounts of electricity for both countries on either side alongside massive amounts of water Then there's a fact this reservoir creates a micro climate and helps maintain the area as being green Next of these two countries asked for independence but even so the world bank and European nations are the ones paying and designing repairs not either of the countries it's in It's design is revolutionary for it's time so maybe do more research and learn about a topic before complaining about it And please don't pull the race card that's bs considering the slaughter of shite people in Africa being done
@ww53024 ай бұрын
@Batshite_crazy do you realize how wrongly You read my post. I have been at that lake, I have posted that people blames whites for building shabby and lousy jobs because they were for Africans and now Africans are stuck with the bill. I stated that when whites were building those ( advanced) projects for Africa in China and Russia people were transporting and traveling in donkey wagons. I have been in India where whites British buld the moust advanced and developed rails systems in the world and that was 80 years ago !!!! Do you know that British buld in England power generators and transport to Victoria Falls ( Rhodesia) and buld the biggest power plant at that time 90 years ago. At that time, moust electricity in Eastern European countries and in China was un known think. Read comments before mine comments!!! Readers were blaming whites, that this dam was buld bad , because it was for black people. ....
