This is crazy and Angela said in an interview she first met Michael when she was meeting with Katherine Jackson one day, Michael suddenly appeared and walked over to them and soon as he noticed her he excitedly said “Ohh! You were wonderful” and held her hand. She said that moment with him made her feel like a little girl again. So it’s probably safe to say she was a Jackson 5 fan and probably had a crush on MJ, like all other little black girls who grew up in the J5 era.

You have never seen and will never see her do a role that will be even remotely degrading to women, to Black women. Yea, she has done adult roles: adult women do have sex in and out of marraige but they’re is a way to depict anything even that act without dragging the character or oneself. I love her integrity I don’t know about you but I could not watch Monsters Ball. Could not. As for these men who say they love us: show and prove. Tired of the talk. Not seeing it out here in the real worlds of Black women. We get robbed all the darn time one way or another. Stand in the gap with us, muchacho.

Integrity and self-respect is what Ms. Bassett stands for. She's regal and classy. She never accepted demeaning or disrespectful roles like Halle Berry in Monster's Ball...I hated that movie when I saw it. I like Halle Berry, but I was disappointed in the role because she won an award for it when she had other work that was worthy of awards but didn't get one. It seems like BW in Hollyweird that have made it big and won those awards always took a demoralizing or downtrodden role in a movie to get it like Lupita N'Yongo in 12 Years a Slave. The acting for the movie was excellent but it was painful to watch. I watched it once and will never watch it again. They like to cast us in roles that are in poverty, pimped, over-sexualized, abused, drug addicts, side chicks, combative, and abusive in every way possible. Edit: She should have gotten an award for Waiting To Exhale or for the Tina Turner movie.

She didn't want to lose her dignity just to win an Oscar. She literally played a Beautifual and dignified Queen. You're making a whole lot of sense.That speech is what "rocked their boats!" It was too truthful and too right for then! Hollywood can't handle that from a strong black Queen! They knew she deserved this Oscar, but they held it back from her! They know of her great acting talent in all her movies, but they're too concerned about "who" & "what" she is made of .....as a black woman in Hollywood!

The last thing you want is an Oscar , it low key roast. They roasted Jamie Lee Curtis, if you know parents history in Hollywood, you'll understand. Cuba Gooding hadn't been same since he won the Oscar, or Monique for Precious.

@lynnettecheatom2922 Жыл бұрын
I agree that's why I never watch. The talented people who should win don't. I will say this. Jamie Lee Curtis is a good actress. But if I had been in her shoes I would have relinquished my Oscar to Angela. And ended by saying you deserve this award so much more. Maybe if the Academy would get more folks to do this they would improve. I was also told some of the voting was done by a few who never even watched the movie the Black Panther. So what does that tell you. As far as her reaction she can look anyway she chooses. Because we all know she was robbed of the Oscar.

I still can't believe Angela didn't win an Oscar for portraying Tina Turner in "What's Love Got to Do with It." That role was heartbreaking yet fierce and powerful. She plays strong, powerful black women. Not comic foils or downtrodden black women. Not naming names. She also doesn't play by Hollywood rules. She's her own person. Unfortunately, Hollywood is often a popularity contest and perpetuates stereotypes. Angela doesn't live her life that way. That said, she will never be forgotten. Thanks, Karine, for your portrait of Angela Bassett!

I don’t think anyone else could have stepped in for Tina Turner except Angela. She was awesome in that role, and all the other ones too. She is the Swiss Army knife of Hollywood. She inhabits her characters completely and seamlessly. And seems to never age. While she certainly deserved the Oscar, I don’t lend much credence to the selection of the winners, not since Spike Lee got passed over for Malcolm X. But I see her making movies for years to come and I’m there for her. She is just a force of nature. Beautiful inside and out.

Angela Bassett is the female Denzel. But just like most actresses in the game she deserves so many awards unfortunately she just didn’t get. But what a lot fans fail to realize is that, many of these actresses who have been in the industry for so long are so humble that not getting the awards after 20+ years of putting in work doesn’t bother them as much as it does the fans.

I’ve always wanted to meet her! I saw Mr. Courtney B. Vance in an art museum a few years ago and got so excited. I loved him in Preacher’s Wife and I really wanted to meet him. After a few minutes, I nervously approached him. I was SO awkward! I was also self conscious because I was very underdressed for the location and event. lol I tripped over my words, telling him that I was a fan of his and that Preacher’s Wife was an important movie from my upbringing. He was so extremely personable and polite! He didn’t make me feel like I was a bother, or that my babbling was in any way an annoyance. He gestured towards his kids who politely asked my name and introduced themselves. It was a pleasant experience, not just because he was a celebrity that I respected, but because their family exuded excellence and class. I was disappointed that Angela wasn’t there but if her family is any indication of who she is a woman, her celebrity persona is every bit authentic. I really enjoyed this video and I’m so glad to see so many people support her! She’s always been a classy woman and I think it’s incredibly unfair for people to take her disappointment as shade.

I remember being stoked about Angela's Oscar nomination for blockbuster "What's Love Got To Do With It" but how pathetic it was when the Academy failed to represent itself with any integrity by awarding an inferior performance. Then Bassett's slayage on American Horror Story earned a nomination but the Emmy's also diminished their actual award's prestige in that category the way it did by not awarding Vanessa Williams' supporting actress masterclass. Angela Bassett is one of the most beautiful women… she’s stunning! I’m not into award shows, so I’m not concerned with the results, I like what I like, and my favorite AB movie is “Ike and Tina”… then, “Waiting to Exhale “, “Jumping the Broom”, and the Marvel movies.

Words cannot express how much I've admired this woman! When she didn't get the Oscar, I truly felt she was robbed. I too agree that Angela is long overdue for at least 3 or 4 Oscars in my humble opinion.

Given that nasty quote in EW from that Oscar voter, it's not surprising she didn't win. That person really felt some way about black folks not just being happy to be in the room. But we know. Angela is woman.

The fact that one person can be so beautiful and amazing and strong is phenomenal. Beyond her looks, the very essence of her being is filled with so muchhhh power and self-love. That in itself is worth celebrating. She should have gotten an Oscar but even without it she's iconic, atleast to us!! Sometimes you don't need the whole world to love you and support you (even as an actress) as long as you have a group behind you and seeing your worth and abilities, it can be enough.

Angela is too much for that Oscar. The Oscar needs her. She is a goddess, aboriginal mother of all. What does she need with that idol? She is not diminished in her greatness with the Oscar or without it. I know that she knows that, too. She did more than earn it. She has proven her worth as the representative of every aboriginal mother/goddess with her beauty, poise, intelligence, and grace, and superb acting skills. 💯💯💗💗❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Angela Bassett is so gorgeous. Such a natural beauty. She absolutely was robbed. I couldn't believe it!!! I agree with you that EEAAO was an excellent movie and if that young Asian woman won I wouldn't have been upset but Jaime Lee Curtis?? I was dumbfounded.
@harajukuhellok1tty
@harajukuhellok1tty Жыл бұрын
Right because the thing is Jaime's character is (in my opinion) less relevant to the plot than Stephanie Hsu(the young asian woman)'s character who is literally the daughter of the main protagonists!!!!! As you said, if angela hadn't won I would've been happy if Stephanie had won, and vice versa

Angela is a fave of mine as well, and this was a lovey breakdown. However, I could not see her playing Whoopi's role in Ghost. Whoopi's comedic timing is impeccable. She can navigate from the seriousness of The Color Purple, For Colored Girls and make us laugh our faces off like she did in Sister Act. She is an EGOT for reason. On that note, please do a breakdown on her ( If you have not already). Thanks for the stunning photos of Angela that you included in this, she's our forever queen!👑

Angela Bassett:phenomenal and class act….has had some classic movie roles but the scene in The Jacksons The American Dream where Catherine checked Joe for his infidelity had me standing up in applause……Angela Bassett will soon get her Oscar and her flowers because it’s well deserved…..also not to be funny when Angela Bassett gets mad, she gives u that old school mother look and will say don’t play with me…. I don’t play….ijs….

Anyone with a real brain knows exactly why JLC won. It's not her acting. It's in her art. Angela is a beautiful, intelligent and strong woman...who is also a fantastic artist. Oh no! I had no idea we share the same birthday, except I'm 3 years older!!

This Queen is phenomenal. She should’ve been won an Oscar. And it’s no disrespect to Jamie, I like her and I’m sure she deserved hers too but Angela definitely should’ve received an Oscar. And in addition, she is such a regal Royal beautiful woman, I’m so proud to see her representing a black Queen so well. And her and Courtney are a wonderful couple. Makes me emotional looking at the two of them, it reminds me of the loving committed marriage my parents had until my dad passed from Alzheimer’s. Angela and Courtney are truly a classy loving couple.

I was shocked she didn't get it but not surprise cuz Wakanda was anti-American... She's an Icon, beauty and grace. There some actresses who you grew up with that are really important in your life. Marilyn Monroe, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Halle Berry, Angelina Jolie and her are on my top 5 favorite actresses. I love them, watching pictures of them, some scene of their movies on KZbin cuz they are really icons and their game is so intense. Their aura got so much density and light. You can't take your eyes of them.

Angela is a fantastic actress. I've never been a Jamie Lee Curtis fan. In my opinion (and I've a right to have one) she was definitely overrated. Now, when it comes to Viola Davis: Hands down. She knows how to get my tears flowing with her acting. Both are very BEAUTIFUL and talented.

Shocker you'd do this video! But, I'm glad! I remember you said you'd devote time to updating a video on the ever so LOVELY and GIFTED Angela Bassett only AFTER she received an Academy Award for her POWERFUL performance as 👑 Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ♾️. But, this update is needed, because I'm tired of the backlash Mrs. Bassett has been receiving lately. Nevertheless, glad I didn't watch the Oscars. But, I'm glad Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors gave her some love. As long as WE give her some love, this is what TRULY matters! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
