How is it not Beyonce's fault? Beyonce claims everything goes through her first. If beyonce had any decorum or respect for artists that came before her or after her, she would have contacted Etta James and either get her blessings or include her in singing together. She literally played Etta James in a film. Did Beyonce even study Etta like Angela Bassett studied Tina before doing the movie? Now I'm curious. And before you go into your worship mode of Beyonce, just remember Beyonce did the same thing to Ledisi at the Grammys. Took the moment from Ledisi to sing a song she had no business doing, when Ledisi sang and played the role in the actual movie. Y'all are gonna understand Beyonce uses her power and influence and the males she's surrounded by (her father, Jay-Z), to sabotage and step on other black women in the industry to move up. She was so pretty and talented. It’s unfortunate how so many young amazing artists come from many traumatic life circumstances. You did a great job telling her story.

I love love love Etta James! Thank you for your video. My favorites are PUSHOVER , AT LAST, and IT MUST BE LOVE . In a strange way, I think it’s all the troubles that plagued her gave her the passion and realness to her voice that you could actually feel. Truly an amazing woman and a great legend. Bravo Etta!

IMO, Beyonce, although an incredibly talented singer, cannot hold a candle to Etta James.

19:45 I sure do understand… she was a fragile woman trying to claim her spot……what she said was rude, but we discard our elders and it is shameful I would have much preferred to hear her sing her OWN song.

What a tragic story. “At Last” is one of my fav songs of all time. All sounds like such a tragedy. The timing of her dementia and Beyoncé’s performance. Not sure how to express my sorrow. Wow. What a great coverage of a tragic story. Thank you for sharing. ❤

Wow I never knew Ms James was from Los Angeles. I was raised in a Baptist Church in Watts California but lived in Long Beach California we passed the Watts Tower every Sunday on the way to church. Also, Ms James is buried in the same cemetery as my grandparents. Etta James was stunning. This is a great piece you did about her. Much love.❤

Etta James is one of my favorite singers, her music gives me such peace. I had eye surgery a couple of years ago and couldn’t watch tv or read, and I spent hours listening to her. She had such a tragic past; I hope she knew what she meant to people before she died. Thank you for making this video

The entire thing with Beyoncé…..we need to remember she had Alzheimer’s! People with dementia can often be very harsh and aggressive because of the shrinking of the brain and fluid build up - she later stated she was happy with Beyoncé’s tribute.

Saw Cadillac movie and listening to both etts and beyonces renditions . Beyonce sang those songs so good ! I was in tears she sang with so much emotion. But I do prefer Sunday kind of love by Etta and at last by Christina Aguilera but all of the rest of songs beyonce touched my soul !

No! That's Ettas song. PERIOD! She could have at least asked to sing it with Etta. And told the Obamas that she wanted Etta woth her to help since it was really her song, not Beys. I love Etta James. ❤️
@La-wr5dn10 ай бұрын
It's a song that anyone can and a lot of singers have sung, idc that it was Etta's signature song.. If she had a problem, it should have been directed at the Obamas for requesting it be sang by Beyonce; not attack Beyonce. But, I do understand that her outburst was probably due to her dementia. I felt bad for Beyonce, who only sang a song as requested.
@missladybug7310 ай бұрын
@La-wr5dn idc how you feel. These new generations are so disrespectful. You could have put your comment elsewhere, not on my feed. I've a right to my opinion. Just because you're probably from the bee hive and a bey suoerfan. Go be a sheep somewhere else. I give respect to the originals. Bye!
@AngeBiampandou10 ай бұрын
The song was a cover. Etta wasn't the original singer of the song but a dark skinned black woman was. Her version ended being forgotten and went unnoticed by the masses while Etta's rendition completely overshadowed her. Etta was a bitter old lady like many of them are period. She is still an icon but stop capping for her bc she's an elder
@baylorsailor10 ай бұрын
"At Last" was not an original song of Etta's it was written by two men years before she performed it. She was not the first to cover the song. Her anger at Beyonce didn't make sense since it wasn't HER song perse.

Agreed. Literally everyone under here are in worship mode of stealing Beyonce and not looking at the respect that should have been shown. Why tf did you play her in a movie then, if you had no respect for her to begin with. This is why Angela Bassett is respected. Never disrespected Tina Turner

I have an eclectic taste in music…I can’t imagine a life with no music in it. One of my play lists is compiled of singers or bands performing a song that moves me no matter how many times I listen to it…a song, a performance, which showcases the incredible talent of the singer(s). Each singer or group only get 1 song on this playlist which has become a wonderful mix of musical genres. However there are a few unbelievably talented singers that I couldn’t pick just one of their songs. Etta James is a singer who I couldn’t decide which of her songs I loved above the rest. Of course AT LAST-so sorry Beyoncé but Etta’s rendition is perfection filling me with such joy & Etta should have sung it at President Obama’s ball-immediately went on my playlist, titled MOST LOVED SONGS OF ALL TIME. Finally I decided STORMY WEATHER had to be included.

Recently Tracey Chapman did a duet with Luke Combs, who covered her iconic hit fast cars. This might have been a way Etta and Beyonce could have performed at the inauguration. This is in hindsight and perhaps health issues, as mentioned by Etta's son played her role in her attack of Beyonce.

So true, I agree. Beyonce should have had Ms. Etta with her to sing but B seemed to want the spot light for herself. This is so sad. B had a icon and did not want to share the stage. How selfish of B. RIP Ms. Etta you are amazing with your talent in music 🎶 history 🎉

Grew up listening to all the greats of Motown and even though I was a child, I could hear the hope, pain, and soul in every song ❤ You don’t get songs like this anymore because stars do their best to live perfectly whereas before, they could make mistakes without the spotlight and turning the pain from these mistakes into hits.

Beyoncé vs James? No comparison. James was a real talent. Beyoncé is manufactured. I had the privilege of seeing Ms. James perform in San Diego in the early 90’sx When she sang ‘I Would Rather Go Blind’ there was not a dry in the house. RIP Etta James 🙏🏼

In February 2010 I started a new job at Riverside County Regional Hospital in Moreno Valley CA. The first week of training one of the young girls in the office told me "some famous person is a patient in this hospital, with hesitation she says "one Etta James", I loudly repeated ETTA JAMES!? I know who she is!! I really wanted to go see her, then thought I better not LOL. Thank you Karine 👍
