Finally, someone recognized that this series was about Kat vs Joker, not Rudy. Rudy ended up on him plenty of times, but Kat was his primary defender. Joker's lowest fg% is when Kat is his defender. It was 40.9% this series and under 40 for the last 2 seasons.
@16psycoАй бұрын
Very good. Game 6, Jokic finished at 8/9 in shooting with Gobert as the main defender. But before this meeting, he was at 11/28 in the same configuration and had finished Game 4 with a record of 4/13 against Gobert... The Wolfs before Rudy, can't do shit in playoffs (can't even manage to be in lol) and have an awful defense... Then Rudy arrived => the Wolves became the best team in the West with OKC, the best defense in the league, got beaten by the champs in 2023, and will play the final conference in 2024... People have no idea what defense is in basketball... which I can understand because except for some blocks and steals, it's not a flashy work.

KAT’s post D and rim protection are super underrated. Both get drowned out by his shooting stats. Rudy gets the block numbers from helpside erases but is a clumsy 1on1 defender. KAT is a unicorn, he’s a 7fter with quickness, Rudy is a slow 7 footer with good timing.

Rudy has the highest +- among all the players in NBA during playoffs. Remove him and the whole defense scheme gets in trouble. Game 2 was won without Rudy. But he is removed through the game time to time and the teams efficiency goes down immediately. He closes lanes, he is a rebounder, unlike what AC says he defends around perimeter well. He is not asked to defend one on one because that's not how the scheme works. Coach prefers him to be free as someone to plug if there is leak.

Kat is very important and dear to us. He keeps us in the game. He is also a very good scorer. Having said that, no need to throw Rudy under the bus. He is our anchor in defense. They have different skill sets. Rudy's presence is a little weird. When he is efficient you dont even realize he is there because he makes the other team to avoid certain things Look at some of the moves Jokic does, especially on the paint. He avoids a lot of post moves. Thats because he know there is a huge chance rudy will block him even if he gets around Towns. Check out 3:34. He has the skill set to make his move against KAT there. Not just KAT. Any player ever existed. This is Jokic for you. But if he makes some move and goes around KAT, Gobert will step in. So he moves out. The reason he is outside the charge circle is Gobert.

I can never tell if you're being sarcastic or not 😂 but no lies, KAT is probably one of the few defenders in the league who can guard Joker 1 v 1. KAT sets a good base with his legs and get's low enough that Joker can't push him around too much. The only thing KAT gets in trouble with his swiping too much and getting into foul trouble. That's what Joker wants him to do to get him out of the game. You're never going to stop him, but it slows him down enough.

There's a lot of good defenders on the T-Wolves. I still have Gobert above him because, while he didn't have as much impact as a man defender, a HUGE part of those struggles was simply because defending Jokic meant he simply wasn't there to deter shots at the time. Gobert under the rim meant that they could actually double Jokic.
@16psycoАй бұрын

Rudy makes players change their mind about going to the basket. Towns has enough strength to handle Jokic, but Denver’s other players were in jail by Timberwolves defensive pressure.
@rickharrison1737Ай бұрын
KAT is the best matchup for Jokic on the T-Wolves. Their best defensive player is undoubtedly Gobert. How do you watch these games so closely and still look at defense from a 1on1 perspective. Also if Rudy could guard Booker, Beal, and Durant I’m sure he can hold his own on Jamal Murray (which he did when he switched on him this series.)
@doejan8549Ай бұрын
the idea is almost all the denver plays starts with jokic, murray is not the PG if hes cant playmake without jokics help hes a scorer so SG then. stopping jokic is the key, so basically kat is the best defender in that series
@rickharrison1737Ай бұрын
@@doejan8549 KAT and Gobert work in tandem to stop the Nuggets offense. KAT slows down Jokic while Gobert deters any attempt to get points in the paint. Part of the reason the Nuggets looked like your average 3-point chuckers instead of what we expect from their offense is the rim deterrence of Gobert. But if KAT wasn’t there Jokic cooks Rudy while simultaneously taking him away from the rim.
@doejan8549Ай бұрын
@@rickharrison1737 i get your point your right thats the defensive strategy. well like i said the idea is to stop jokic. Switching is also part of the game, when jokic is successful in switching the defender from kat to gobert, then kat and goberts tandem is compromised-(thats goberts accountability cause he shouldnt take on jokic) while kat can stop gordon now or can anticipate cutters, gobert will lost agaisnt jokic. also kats switching ability is great this playoff. gobert is the best defender overall in the timberwolves, ac is not serious when saying its towns, his statement is just for this series agaisnt nuggets.
