The thing about the duality of perception - the “two yous” - is actually a really core concept of Hindu and Buddhist philosophy. Karl has put his finger on what Eastern religion claims (correctly, in my view) to be the core understanding of existence: that the eternal witness - the light behind the eyes - is distinct from the person and all of its trivial thoughts. The fact that Steve and Ricky laugh at this profound observation speaks volumes for how much wiser Karl is as a soul. He’s still got a head like a fucking orange though. 🍊

Your entire statement is based on what happens rather than anything actually saying that's what's supposed to happen. Karl is always guaranteed to say something different, interesting and more often than not, not too intelligent. It's funny when they pick up on him when he does say something not so bright, but when he doesn't it just doesn't work at all and is not funny. In fact it's rather painful. I extremely much doubt that is the objective of the show. Comedy is not normally trying to be funny every single second so these points where they're not doing that would actually make it better.
