AS a child I was taken by my dad Fritz Henker 1. bassonist across from the Hamburger Staats Oper to a meeting with Karl Richter. It must have been around 1954. I was little. My dad played all over the world with Karl Richter and two concert tours in Italie . It is real amazing to see and hear them today !

This is what will be left of us, if humanity is gone in a not too distant future. The first movement of this wonderful music is eternalized on two gold-plated records that were put on NASA Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft. They were launched in 1977 to explore our outer planets and beyond, both have now left the solar system, gaining another 15km distance to earth every second and will be possibly found in 40.000 years or so by another civilization at some distant planet circling another sun. Both spaceprobes are still partly operational and are sending scientific data back to earth, as of 2024 it takes 22 hours (Voyager 1) and 17 hours (Voyager 2) for the radiosignal reaching us.

After listening to a variety of performances , my preference would be Claudio Abbado -Orchestra Mozart . Unlike Mr. Richter , Mr. Abbado is almost invisible. The video is well done and features the performers who are fantastic . This group is constructed much as Bach intended . 3 + 3 + 3 . . The Richter version features a much larger orchestra, too large in my opinion. Changes the character of the piece. and lacks crispness compared to the Abbado version.

My real problem is the total absence of baroque style as well as misunderstanding of polyphonic structure. Abbado and the Orchestra Mozart is a gem in any mean, giving the absolute true life of baroque music in a very colorful way with perfect balance and understanding of the smallest nuances.

This is disgusting. There's 2 bloody harpsichords, and how on earth are you meant to hear the other soloists if they're being overpowered by a modern, full orchestra. This poor performance is a result of not knowing, or caring to delve into historical context or practice.

I do not like the violinist, he plays so heavily and including teh whole orchestra , chewing gumi long notes, it should be much more airy, lighter, better articulated.
