A quick tip to make the stroke easier on this shot: move your grip forward 6" (15 cm). This causes your forearm to get chicken-winged sooner, which checks the stroke. This type of check-stroke is well-known to carom players, as we always want the cue ball to go longer or shorter of where it wants to go naturally. "Staying on the ball," with a longer follow through, helps the cue ball go longer. This shot is an example of "getting off the ball," which makes a ball break shorter off the object ball. These concepts are VERY useful for position play in pool. With practice, and moving your grip forward just the right amount, you can hit even fairly hard and still stop the cue tip 1" (2.5cm) past the front edge of the cue ball.

I use it often. I also often combine the drag shot with cheating the pocket as well as applying side spin to "throw" the object ball, thus allowing for a fuller hit on the object ball, which helps hold the cue ball on the correct side for the next shot. I've seen your videos on that. Great stuff!

@theabhorrentchef72262 жыл бұрын
Being elevated just magnifies the effect of an off center hit. If you stay straight on, or account for the exaggerated swerve you’ll get then all is well. It still sucks though having to elevate lol.

Nice tip though you are still rolling it but with more authority. However, you are directing down force into the table through the ball WHICH can result in squirting the ball to one side slightly. It really is a different stroke than low cue drag stroke but end result is similar assuming nothing goes wrong 🙃

It’s the same strike / hit but still hitting at the top of the white, so it is correct 😊 So the drag shot you aim low, I’m trying to explain strike the cueball the same but hit the top of the cueball because it’s on the rail Hope that makes sense 😊

Doesn't the cue ball swerve with the drag shot?
@theabhorrentchef72262 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. A drag shot is just a draw shot that you don’t hit hard enough for the cue ball to still be spinning backwards at contact. Like a draw stroke that you purposely want the draw to wear off before contact with the OB. So you can hit the cue ball harder initially, then during its travel that backspin slows the cue ball down, by the time it gets to the object ball it’s at a slow roll - without having the risk of the cue ball rolling off because it was going slow the whole time.
