I've only seen one pro mention this tip that helped me more than anything. If the object ball is close and you need to elevate the cue ball more, aim to hit the cue ball with the top edge of the tip, not the middle of the tip. This made the biggest change for me.

You came to St Charles/St Louis during that time probably to meet the cuemaker. This was in 2014ish. One of my buddies is also sponsored by same cuemaker, who I met while playing a local tournament.
