The piece of advice which helped my break most was: "don't think about hitting it hard, think about hitting it fast". No idea why but concentrating on the speed of the cue rather than power when I deliver really helped me.

Really digging your channel Karl. I’ve only been playing pool for about 3 years but I consider myself absolutely obsessed with it! It’s all I think about, much to the dismay of girlfriend lol. Sadly I only have a bar box to play on at a pub here in Koh Phangan, Thailand but I’m there every day playing 10-20 games and doing practice drills. I hope to eventually get a 9 footer at home and really dedicate myself to becoming the best player I can be. Your videos are such a great help and inspiration. Thanks for all your efforts and being so down to earth!

Hey karl, nice idea, i thik one keypoint is the position of the white ball. the white is exactly in the angle to the first ball like the anatomy of his arm. So he can follow through the white without thinkin and have a full contact with the objectball. otherwise the white jumps over the table. cheers from Germany

@KB just observation and I’m sure you already know this but… if you look closer you can see that Django, Jeffrey the Bull, and the South Dakota Kid all share very key elements in their strong breaks. Here they are, 1. Choke up about 1 hand to 1.25 hand on the break ( because you need to stretch the arm for step two) 2. Lift head straight up without body weight shifting to the arm or the legs this head movement should be subtle and allow it to settle naturally (much like the stroke follow through) don’t manufacture a stop on the head lift it will help to shift the eyes to the object ball, to feel relaxed, at the pause in the stroke. 3. The stroke pops more on contact so where compact strokes would have very slight angle, this stroke requires to be as level as you can get at the point of impact. *Tips* I find it helpful to build the stance while inhaling a nice relaxed breath and once you have gotten down relax the exhale into normal breathing pattern. The first long inhale/exhale in the setup will help slow the heart rate and allow you to really relax that wrist

From a physics standpoint I feel like larger men like buddy hall can more easily generate faster tip speed than the Mike Segal's and the Nick Varner's of the world. Size matters. Otherwise you find your feet flying around like some kind of Ginn. Hell your foot may even end up on top of the rail... who knows!?
@MrADVANCEDTEK3 жыл бұрын
I've studied Jeff's break and the arm whip is only part of it. If you watch him finish he's square with the table but at ninety degrees at the start. He's twisting his upper body. You'd get more velocity by rotating your torso. Give it a try. I use to twist with my right shoulder aiming at the rack back when I was hitting a heavy cue ball. I hit 33 or 35mph I can't remember but there were a few people hitting 36 to 41mph and it was loud. That was 20yrs ago with a red circle cue ball. I think the measel ball is heavier. Back then I used a 14mm shaft and the cue weighed just under 16oz. I'm going to try that app out. My break is more compact with a choked up grip but way more controlled sometimes lol

Decreasing the weight does not help, because it decreases the inertia even though the speed of the cue is increased. Basic physics means you are just swapping one for another. Considering you scratched more after you took the weight out, you probably should put it back in.
@timothybolshaw3 жыл бұрын
That would be true if only the weight of the cue was behind the shot, but not when you consider other forces that resist attempts to push the cue tip back. Owing to human anatomy, the degree to which you are accelerating at the point of contact is dependant on many factors that, in turn, may be affected by the weight of the cue you are propelling forward prior to contact. There will likely be an ideal weight that may be greater or lower than the initial cue weight. The key is perfect timing.
@HouseofReason783 жыл бұрын
@@timothybolshaw the key will be accuracy.
@HouseofReason783 жыл бұрын
@@timothybolshaw the forces are constant. Your arm can only deliver a certain amount of speed. The heavier the cue is, the slower it can accelerate. The lighter the cue, the faster it can accelerate but it has less mass behind the force. Therefore, the weight of the cie is irrelevant. It's about the accuracy of the hit.
@timothybolshaw3 жыл бұрын
@@HouseofReason78 I think we will need to agree to disagree on the forces that exist when the cue tip connects with the cue ball. To me, it seems clear that the players arm and (depending on his technique) other parts of the body with non zero mass are imparting forward force at the time of contact between the cue tip and the cue ball. I do not believe you can just ignore this and say that it is only the speed and mass of the cue and mass of the cue ball prior to contact that is relevant. We are in agreement, though, that striking the cue ball cleanly without spin (except possibly to lift the cue ball very slightly) is key to optimising the force with which the cue ball hits the rack.
@HouseofReason783 жыл бұрын
@@timothybolshaw so tell me what force besides the kinetic energy the body transfers to the cue makes the weight of the cue relevent? Yes, the accuracy makes a distinction for spin and energy transferred to the speed of the cue ball, but you imply there is something more.
@JohnDisque3 жыл бұрын
