I love seeing all these new channels about Drum Corp showing up, even 5 years ago none of these existed! Totally growing the activity, thank you.

Thank you so much! I think there's a huge void and I just figured I'd step in and provide something I never had when I was growing up in the activity. So yes, it will grow the activity, just because more people will grow from the resources I put out there and hopefully inspire even more people to put out some tremendous resources for the community :)

I won't be old enough for DCI for 2 years, any tips for what I should work on over those 2 years to help me get into the pit?
@KarlDrumTech7 жыл бұрын
Learn all your major and minor scales. Once you know your scales, make sure you can arpeggiate them. Then, work your way up to four mallets and learn how to play chords and arpeggios with the four mallets. Finally, learn as many exercises and literature as you can before finally learning all the exercises and literature of the DCI group you wish to audition for :) Good luck! Keep us posted on your progress ya? Would love to know that you reached your goal!

What would someone wanting to try out for legends cymbal line want to work on
@KarlDrumTech7 жыл бұрын
I say number one, make sure you are physically strong and have good endurance. Even if you don't know the technique, you'll be able to pick it up and have more time to practice just because you are able to keep the plates up in the air longer. Of course, you can practice technique with just your hands as well. Also, work on timing...isolated quarters, 8ths, etc. As far as Cymbal technique goes, I know there isn't a lot of education material out there, but I hope I can remedy that in the future :)

Hey Carl, I understand this is an older video, but I am around 14, and practice snare on my practice pad every day, hours on end, and it’s what I want to do with my career. Do you have any tips for making crown? Also how to clean up Diddles?
@KarlDrumTech4 жыл бұрын
Hey, I appreciate you coming on to this video even though it's old :) I'm glad you are practicing every day for hours. That's definitely one of the things you need to do to reach your goals. But you also need to make sure you practice smart! Know what you need to fix, how to fix it and make a little bit of progress towards your goals every day! It would also help to get your hands on resources like my videos, a private lesson instructor and countless amounts of practice with a metronome. If you want it badly, I have no doubt you'll make it happen :) Cleaning up diddles is all about making sure you play the rhythm, not the rudiment. I'll be making a new video this week about this, but for now, check this out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3PHq6x8ntKImMk

@Nick does Quad drumming hi there! Make sure the accent is a solid downstroke. Continue to develop good diddle quality and you'll maintain your beefy diddles even though they're low :)
@KarlDrumTech4 жыл бұрын
@Nick does Quad drumming understandable. Just do your best. There is no getting the spot or not getting the spot. There's getting a spot and learning or not getting a spot or learning. Either way you're learning :)

any advice for starting out on tenors in high school and wanting to be part of a drum corps?
@KarlDrumTech7 жыл бұрын
Max out your gig right now. Meaning, be the best quad player and marcher you could possibly be in your High School Program. Be relentless in finding new and efficient ways to get better and build your chops. Make sure your tempo and feet timing are solid! Finally, get my #quadphilosophy here: bit.ly/2t59XDz and watch this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGnIZaaeipema5I

Any tips for somebody that wants to try out for Spirit of Atlantas bass line?
@KarlDrumTech7 жыл бұрын
Yes! Make sure you work on all timing exercise, 4-2-1, grid and have an excellent feel for triplet partials, 16th note partials, etc. Oh and work with Snares and Tenors to practice playing clean because you need to have good unisons as a baseline. Oh and watch this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHm9lINqqreInNU
@sploosha7 жыл бұрын
karldrumtech thanks! I've been really watching my technique recently, now I need to practice splits that are more complicated than just 16th triplets and 32nd notes
@KarlDrumTech7 жыл бұрын
Get together with experienced bass drummers...they can help you a lot as well obviously....maybe even people who marked SoA ;)
@sploosha7 жыл бұрын
karldrumtech hm.. I don't really have a way to get together with experienced players, I have my high school bass line but 3 of them are 1st years

+karldrumtech What he is saying is that most people spell 'corp' as 'corps' regardless of whether it is plural or singular.
@KarlDrumTech8 жыл бұрын
yea I get it. I probably will end up correcting it cuz i'm not trying to be a game changer on the accepted spelling on Drum CorpS...lol But what I really appreciate is you telling me about it very nicely so thank you :)
