Hush child
Open your eyes
You are not alone
We are your dark ones
Holding you close
Come dance with us
Dance in the darkness
We've been waiting for you
That world doesn't want you
Like we do
We see you
For in the night
Fire shines bright
Come dance with us
Dance in the darkness
Oh how we've been waiting for you
Why fight the night
When the night is endless?
Why cling to the light
When the light always diminishes?
Come dance in the dark
And you will be fearless
Let the dark kill the love in your heart
Till your heart is painless
Come let's leave this world behind
Dance with the dark ones in your mind
Come let's leave them all behind
Dance with the dark ones
Dance with the dark ones
Hush child
Open your eyes
You are not alone
We are your dark ones
Holding you close
Come dance with us
Dance in the darkness
We've been waiting for you
That world doesn't want you
Like we do
We see you
For in the night
Fire shines bright
Come dance with us
Dance in the darkness
Oh how we've been waiting for you
Why fight the night
When the night is endless?
Why cling to the light
When the light always diminishes?
Come dance in the dark
And you will be fearless
Let the dark kill the love in your heart
Till your heart is painless
Why fight the night
When the night is endless?

I love everything about this song. The incredibly powerful, dark piano combined with Roxane's cello, but especially the inspired lyrics. Particularly the repeated chorus "Why fight the Night when the Night is endless? Why cling to the light when the light always diminishes? Come dance in the dark and you will be fearless Let the dark kill the love in the heart till your heart is painless "

It's bothering. Most outstanding artists are very empathic, sensitive and very often bipolar or a little crazy. Many transform their pain into art and go through near manic phases of productivity, followed by lethargy and self-doubt etc. Some of the artists I really enjoy on YT made their depression or body dismorphia etc. public and I happened to talk to two artists who admitted depression as being a part of them.

I guess that's why I'm trying to not be so afraid of Death these days. I know that Death is going to come for me and everyone else I know and love eventually, inevitably, so I think and like to think of this song as my own interpretation of me trying to see Death _not_ as an enemy or something to be feared, but I'm trying to think of Death as if I'm embracing Death as an old friend, when my time comes. I hope I'm making some sense here, haha. 😁😂.

What I think is truly haunting about this song is that if you give into the dark ones and dance with them, you will lose your light. They want you because you burn bright (or is that just what they say to draw you near??) Either you become a spent thing they don't want anymore or you become a dark one, too, seducing the next creature of light. I love this song.

This song speaks to me like I am seeing my childhood again. I was a girl afraid of anything related to darkness, night was my enemy, always running toward the lights yet the shadows wasn't what I was really afraid of since I loved the calm in it. At first I feared it. But at some point, I realized that I didn't fear the darkness but the fear itself. I was afraid of the unknown. Always been. As I grew u, I realized light doesn't always mean safety and darkness always fear. Life teaches you a lot as you grow up. And I grew up accepting my flaws and fear of nothing but the unknown. And it ended up being my greatest gift.

I saw many comments about how great this song is but very few about how delicate and exact it is. So I'll add to these. I don't love this song. It hit my heart way too close for me to love it. But I probably will listen to it often when my Dark Ones are dancing around me. For those lucky enough to not have depression, lines like 'we see you' have deeper meanings, at least I think. For me, this song is not about some evil tricksters in a made-up world, but the mind game. That everyone loses that starts playing. And it's not fun to lose. You dance with your Dark Ones and they see through your soul, they tell you how dark it is. And just like the repeating verses in the end, they tell you again and again to kill the love in your heart, the love of yourself, and to give in to the dark, and to never fight the night because it is endless and trying is pointless. Sorry this ended up longer than I thought I hope I'm not wasting anyone's time. I do not love this song, but I can deeply connect to it, thank you Karliene.

That in my experience isn't what I would use being washed out by white shadows(blinding lights conformed to a rigid shape shadows have never seemed evil to me so my inner pain doesn't really feel like darkness but i grew up on horror and mythological monsters alongside the tragedy of seeing things like witch hunts from the "witches" sides so my brain instead sees a story of something akin to a young witch being lured into becoming a changling by fae. Yes something is clearly playing a trick but the intention was to comfort and preserve instead of break apart and kill. That is the kind of feel i am talking about.

Nice! It reminds me of a quote from a game I play: "Fear the darkness if you must, but do not mistake the sunlight for safety". I think the reason that people are afraid of the darkness is that humans evolved knowing that everything else has better night vision, hearing, smell, etc. than us so we became the prey at night no matter what happened during the day. Maybe one day that will no longer happen, we have definitely become less of a "prey" animal.

@@annebird9195 Thanks a lot! It's from a trading card game called Magic: the Gathering. I like it because it sort of disassembles humanity's innate fear of the dark and association between day and safety despite all animals, not just humans, getting better at hunting (etc.) during the day. Here's one I made up: "The day that you feel the fear of prey as you become the hunted is the day that your humanity is confirmed and your heart opened to the suffering of others." It just popped into my head while listening to this.

I think I probably hear this song different than anyone else because I struggled with addiction. Been clean for many years now, so I'm in a good place, but I can absolutely see this as the kind of siren song that drugs sing, like how your own brain pesters you and says "oh, just do it once, just this one time, it'll be fine," when the world gets too tough, and you just want to escape back in to that familiar high and its so damn tempting. Trying not to relapse feels like your addiction is singing this song to you, telling you to stop fighting because it'll make things easier, take away your fear and pain. And you know it's not true, but damn if it's not so tempting...

This song makes me think of my Vampire coven in one of the books I'm working on and I feel this is something the Queen of the coven would sing after hypnotizing the young female character who is an out cast in her town because she knows that monsters lurk but everyone assumes she's insane so she's shoved out of normal things. Well done I feel I have found the Queen's voice thank you Karliene. Love your work and am happy to be a subscriber for going on four years now keep doing what you love and stay safe.

As someone who has had a 20 year struggle with depression, I feel like this entire EP perfectly represents how I feel. I read this song as having su*cidal thoughts. Why fight the night, this world doesn't want you, etc. I've never heard anything that has encapsulated what having MDD is like until I found this beautiful EP.

This song kinda plays well of one of the main characters of a comic I'm making. On the outside, the girl puts on a facade that she's a good girl and innocent but inside, she is really a violent force with psychopathic tendencies and an overimaginative mind. She's in love with with her best friend but she doesn't know if he'll accept her as herself. She sings in her room to a song like this, fantasizing about the man she's in love with.

There is more healing in the dark than in the light. Shadows call to us, not to tempt us to do wrong, but to seek the deeper reasons as to why they exist. Only with the understanding and healing of your shadows can the light truly penatrate.
