You’re such a great storyteller and I love how your genuine passion for speedrunning so clearly bleeds through in every video you make. You put weight into everything you talk about and it makes your videos so fun and compelling. I had absolutely no interest in speedrunning before a week or two ago, when I found your videos, but now I can’t stop watching stuff about it. Thank you.

For most people, they see "speedrunning" as just playing the same game, over and over. The amount of work, time and mental exhaustion it takes, to get a top time or WR (World Record), doesn't get the credit it deserves, imo. I'm glad more people are getting into speedrunning, definitely needs more attention :)

Hey Karl - just wanted to say I had no idea speedrunning was even a thing before I saw your video about the record for Doom E1M1 being broken and since then I watch every video you release as soon as I see it come out. I shared your channel with all my friends and you inspired one of them to become the world record champion holder for Doom E1M1 Nightmare 100% for a few weeks until his record kickstarted some fierce competition in that niche category that left him in awe. You've earned the title of being an absolute legend for your Perfect Dark records alone, but you've also opened up a world for me as an enthusiastic spectator so you're truly an absolute legend to me in personal terms :)

Just before the bowser fight, he sais "*unintelligible* kore, kuso, kuso, kuso" , which means "*unintelligible* this, fuck/shit x3 ^^ Probably because he thought me might not get the sub 15 :D Afterwards you can hear him cheer for himself almost whispering "ike, ike, ike", wich means "go, go, go" and after he had done it he cheered more loudly. Again "ike, ike, ike" as far as I can tell. Not much content though Xd EDIT2: the other stuff I am too bad at Japanese to translate, so hopefully someone else can clear things up :) EDIT3: just after some googling, it seems like he could also mean "イケイケ(ike-ike) is meaning good vibes. But, little old phrase. Most useful in 90's." It also seems to have other meanings depending on context. So quite a bit more complicated than I thought ...

Me:*has never done a speedrun or even played Mario 64* Also me: "Yes, yes, we know the 16 star category still exists because the BLJ trick for the 0 and 1 star categories is inconsistent and results in lots of dead runs, get to the record!" But really I only know the history because of your other videos, I get you are explaining it for new fans since I was one at one point. Great video as always, it's nice to have records put into context rather than just focusing on the single new run.

One of your videos randomly popped into my recommended a few months back and it was then when I realized that speedrunning was a whole new level. I had heard about it but was like "Eh. Only takes a few days to do." I was so naïve. The strategies are insane and even though I'll never attempt speedrunning, I'll always watch videos on it because it's just that awesome.

Interestingly, the 46 min barrier in 70 stars is also a few seconds away as of a few days ago. It's only a matter of time now! kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKuxgp5petp9jNU SM64 is such an entertaining game to watch speedruns of. Great video, thanks for your hard work in the middle of your family life!

SM64 is one of those really rare games that have it all for fun speedruns. The skill ceiling is very high, the game itself is simple enough that anyone can enjoy it (and understand to some extent the skills of a player), and the glitches are generally interesting. There aren't a lot of games that have all those things. That's for sure.

This was a super interesting video! I love how you dive into the history of the speedruns and showcase some of the techniques used, because to people not familiar w/ the speedrunning techniques, it can be confusing why people are cheering or celebrating when a certain skip or move is performed without knowing the context or how difficult certain techniques are. I actually remember watching that door skip during the Summer Games Done Quick on not understanding why everyone was clapping... haha Anyways these videos must take you a long time to write, record and edit together, so thank you!

I'm really glad to see categories beyond 120 star getting this same type of coverage KZbin wise. It does make sense that 16 star is the most popular to run imo because it is like a perfect balance between the other categories. You still get to collect a few of the game's stars while also experiencing a few of the major skips in the game.

@@MagnaLynx21 They've said the same for Ocarina of Time about a thousand times. When optimization hits a ceiling, the hunt for new strategies begins. Note the only difference since 2009 strategy was one star. In other words, strats and glitches will soon be the only way to improve - which means EVERYONE will be hunting for it. That's how Ocarina of Time has been constantly lowered - it's a, comparably, easier game to optimize.

You’re such a great storyteller and I Hey Karl, you legend! Thanks for the video. Knowing Speedrun.com and speedrunning competitively myself (Not Mario though) i assume something bad happened to his Recorded Run that made it invalid? Before i go on, let me add: I have no clue about Doom Eternal Speedruns nor Runners of it so i can only guess. Shit like that happens, Quirks in the Recording of the Speedrun or the Game itself can invalidate Runs, no matter how well known and reliable/trustworthy you are. Speedrun.com has to stick to strict Rules. And yes this can be infuriating for Speedrunners. I can think of quite a few Cases where someone in the Dark Souls Community had some shit happen out of their Control, and then have their Record denied because of it.
