@@ulikemyname6744 Everyone in top-tier athletics is on roids. Our team in socialist times was on unreasonable amounts of juice but they also trained unbelievably hard. They had heavy practice sessions up to three times per day. My father used to hang out with these guys in the cafeteria, he's seen them so dead tired after practice that they couldn't even eat. This was, of course, super unhealthy and their life expectancy wasn't great. There's a reason the records of this generation of weightlifters had to be erased by changing the weight classes. I wonder what will happen in the future when we'll probably have genetically engineered humans.
@ulikemyname67445 ай бұрын
@@IordanIovkov No evidence for that. And we are not talking now but in the past when testing was not nearly as good and as sophisticated. There is a reason why so many "great" nations' greatness disappeared not just from weightlifting but from the Olympics as a whole. Those nations are almost exclusively Eastern European nations. They were abusers of roids in huge quantities. After the Seoul Olympics, things started to get more serious with testing and suddenly nations like Bulgaria completely disappeared. Btw, this is Bulgarian telling you this. My nation is one of the biggest abusers of steroids in weightlifting. Actually, we are probably the biggest ever in history.

Seb I enjoyed your Q&A session on Weightliftinghouse TV recently. On it you mentioned the rumor of Karlos being offered big bucks to lift for Qatar. I hope it doesn’t come to that and the Bulgarian sports/weightlifting assoc. realize they have a national treasure in this guy and pay him accordingly. I realize it is not easy for a small European country to compete with an oil rich country like Qatar but I hope they do the right thing. I see a huge difference between changing countries vs moving to Manchester United or NY Yankees.

Charles Bryant. 102? What happened to 96 class. Don’t assume the 2028 Olympic categories will be the same as this year’s. Aside from that Paris is Meso’s 3rd Olympics he’ll be 30 in 2028. He may have had enough after this year tho I hope not.
@berayahmed67926 ай бұрын
He categorically declined the offer. Unfortunately, we have corrupted sports organisation/ministry as they haven't even offered to pay for his surgery on the Achiles tendon. He spent nearly 30k on rehab, surgery etc. He said its more of a matter of honor not money. BTW Qatar offered him nearly $2.5M before even starting to compete for their flag ....
@JohnDoherty-dl2fz6 ай бұрын
Betsy. He’s a better man than me if he can turn down that kind of money in order to continue lifting for his native country. As I understand it the money earned in the German league is somewhat modest; a couple thousand dollars a meet. If the Bulgarian federation isn’t kicking it in for him thru stipends how is he getting paid?

@@Jack_huntakillaThere’s no denying the hard work and incredible genetics of these athletes. Most people wouldn’t even be able to reach their level even with the best PEDs in the world. However, weightlifting is arguably one of the dirtiest sports in the Olympics. For example, 8 out of the 20 competitors tested positive for PEDs in the men’s 94 weightlifting category for the 2012 Olympics. That’s almost half of all competitors in that session testing positive for banned substances. In fact, the Olympic committee threatened to entirely remove weightlifting from the itinerary after the 2028 Olympics due to the sport’s history of corruption. Again, these athletes are incredibly gifted and hard working, but it would be naive to completely rule out the possibility of PEDs for many of these athletes.
