In this week's video, I hustle to prepare the cabin for the winter. I winterize the sand point well, finish the deck for the bathhouse, and get the plow truck ready for the upcoming snow.

I like the crunching of the leaves as you walk in the woods. It’s soothing. The deck looks nice!!!

I agree with you, sir. There’s very few things as soothing as the beauties of nature. I am hustling on that deck in hopes of our neighbors, coming up to visit us this spring.😊

Yep, I agree that our small cabin is worth it also. Being off grid off power is nice. The quiet and wildlife is a wonderful experience. Thanks for the great video, Karl.

I figured you could relate to the joy of having a cozy cabin. I hope you guys are enjoying your cabin as much as we enjoy ours. We hope you guys are having a safe and happy holiday season.

Nice work Karl ! Can't believe how much your place is changing (for the better) since we visited.

Thanks buddy I appreciate it. Now that it’s public that you got a second Camp if you guys ever decide that you would like to upgrade to solar, give me a shout. Margaret and I are so excited for your family. In this new venture. Happy holidays may God bless you and your family.

Good video Karl. I put out salt and mineral blocks out 40 years ago and the deer still work those places. The bath house turned out real nice. Have a great week.

Karl you are a blessed man. Gorgeous cabin, on prime property, with solar panels, plow truck, good water and your health. As they say in the UP holy Wah! Doesn’t get any better than that. Congratulations

Yep. Got some wood put inside by the wood stove yesterday, put new batteries in game cameras, put away some cleaned pots and dishes and dry food and got things cleaned up and ready for winter. Got an inch of snow yesterday late in the day. Not much snow so far this year in northern MN. One grouse.
@karlsoffthegrid13787 ай бұрын
We’ve pretty much had the same weather as you have. Every time we get a little bit of snow it melts pretty quickly. Hopefully late winter doesn’t hit us too hard. grouse hunting has been difficult without any snow, hopefully we get a little bit

Hi Karl! I was surprised that there was no snow on the ground up there yet but, at least, you were able to get the winterizing done before any big winter storm hit. Take care now!

It’s been a really goofy year this year as far as the weather is concerned. Sure is nice to enjoy the warmer temperatures. Unfortunately it’s supposed to start cooling down again soon. Margaret and I are hoping you guys are having a safe and happy holiday season!!

It’s been a real blessing to be able to have this in our lives. You’ll have to come up sometime we’re only a half hour away from Potawatomi.

It's good to see You Carl, I'm with you on having a small cabin even though I have property taxes and and electric bill. It worth it to me to have a little get away from our 4,000 Sq ft. Home we reside at. Be Safe and stay Strong.

Winterizing is a sad day, but it has to be done, we did our campers back in October. But like you we'll be back during the winter for winter fun. We bought our place March of 2017. It's always so peaceful to get out walk the woods and watch the wildlife roaming the property. Traveled to the Twin Cities this past weekend, saw guys out on the Wisconsin River ice fishing near Rothschild, WI, that's a bit too early for me. Enjoy the holidays Karl.

Merry Christmas my friend!! We lost a lot of ice this week, but I did manage to get out in the woods. It was so beautiful to walk around in the warmer weather. We had 45°F at the cabin today.

Everything is coming together how you’ve planned it at your cabin I am happy for you all. I’ve run mineral holes my grandpa started thirty years ago. He’s gone but I keep them going.
@karlsoffthegrid13787 ай бұрын
It’s amazing how many deer come to visit that mineral lick. I’m constantly trying to think of ways to improve the Whitetail habitat. Our little watering hole that we made earlier in this year has been pretty productive as well. We have so much open hardwoods that it’s hard to keep the deer in the area. It’s great to hear that. You’re still keeping your grandpa’s set up going, hopefully my kids will do the same for me.

Thanks for the video Karl, enjoyed it very much! I can't remember the last time I plugged a drill in lol! Yep, winterizing the ole sand point is pretty simple. Cant wait to see the finished bath house, nice work! I wouldn't trade our 400 sq ft cabin for anything! Amazing how you adapt to live with less! Happy holidays my friend!
@karlsoffthegrid13787 ай бұрын
I completely agree with you Mark, we love the simple life. May God bless you and your family this holiday season. If Eric asked for my phone number, it’s OK to give it to him. I have the feeling it would be fun to get together with you guys and hit some late ice this year.

Hey Karl. It's always a sad day at the end of fall when you have to winterize the cabin. Tammy and I winterized our camper at the end of October and it's never a fun day. We are hoping to get a cabin soon so it will easier to go out to our property in the winter. Have a great week my friend. Todd from da U.P.

This warmer winter has really made it easier to get outside. I was wondering if you guys were brave enough souls to still be using your camp? It was nice to spend the morning walking through the woods without any mosquitoes or snow. Hopefully this year is not going to be a repeat of last year. Margaret and I would like to wish you guys a merry Christmas. Stay safe brother.
@FordDude667 ай бұрын
@@karlsoffthegrid1378 We go out there pretty much every weekend to feed Tammy's pet deer. Lol. If the weather is still pretty good we hope to stay out there a few nights after Christmas. Tammy and I wish you, Margaret and family a Merry Christmas 🎄

How did we ever manage before cordless tools. Ive been purchasing lumber at good ol Menards for years on a regular basis and its funny how you plan your jobs around terrible twisted lumber, its the new norm i guess 👍🏻🇺🇲
@karlsoffthegrid13787 ай бұрын
I agree with you, they grow trees so quickly now that is tough to get some good lumber nowadays. I do think Menards sells a little bit better lumber than Home Depot. Have a great holiday season.🙂

Glad to see ya got up Nort der-hey, nothing better than digging through a stack of 20 boards at Menards to find one decent one. Love the quite and solitary winter trips always quieter in the Winter. Heading up myself on Wed. I gotta blow my last few days of PTO hopefully fire up the splitter and split all the cut up downed trees I had this year perfect lumberjack weather, hope to see ya at an Ad's game this year !!!
@karlsoffthegrid13787 ай бұрын
😂 you hit the nail right on the head when you talked about digging through the pile of wood at Menards. It seems like that is an annual ritual now😂. I was thinking about you this afternoon. I hope you guys had great weather while you were up at the cabin. If you’re ever at the admirals games, we usually sit down by the goal of the opposing team for first and third periods.

Karl, what you have is awesome. You don't need a McMansion to be happy. To me, all that means is higher taxes they can rip you on. They already do that enough imo. People don't seem to be happy with what they have been blessed with and always want more, which doesn't make them happy. Crazy times my friend.
@karlsoffthegrid13787 ай бұрын
You are right on,I couldn’t agree more. Money and big things only bring temporary happiness.We get our joy from the simple things in life. As you know, family, friends, and life experiences are what bring true joy. We all wish you and your family a happy and safe holiday season.

Hey Karl...great video..I am so "jelly" I am very interested in an all solar power system for my house. Do you have video posts showing how to create your all solar powered home? Thanx!
@karlsoffthegrid13787 ай бұрын
😊 thank you!! I picked up our solar set up from an online company called “shopsolar.com“. They helped me figure out what size would be appropriate for the cabin. I’m not good with technology, but I’ll try to leave a link to my video when I put solar in the cabin. Have a great holiday season!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3zFo36vnZdmrbssi=Hgw5J4BkzJz3-hBc

Great video my friend as always. That hand pump for ur well - you leave that out all winter? We did that once and it ruined it. Had to replace some parts after that we never left it out all winter. Happy holidays my friend
@karlsoffthegrid13787 ай бұрын
Yeah, I usually leave the well pump out all winter. As long as you drain everything down and cover it with a bucket everything should be fine. We hope you’re having a great holiday season as well.

What kind of wood stove is that?
@karlsoffthegrid13787 ай бұрын
It was made by a company called US stove. I got it from “tractor supply”. It really burns efficiently and it really pumps out the heat. All of the controls are regulated right on the woodstove, there’s no more need to modify the stove pipe. We love it
