Making Progress at the OFF GRID CABIN

I was so inspired by your father at 70 I bought a shed from the Mennonite s three years ago, 10 by 20 had them put two nice windows in the front and a little front porch and made it a tiny house it’s so adorable .. there is a loft that sleeps two grandchildren 😊.. instead of a wood stove I put in a propane fire place that is all cast iron looks just like a wood stove it keeps every nice and toasty even when I’m not there as I still work and live in Sudbury but tiny house is on manitoulin island . I too scrounged around picked up a long dresser refinished it with chalk paint it’s my counter with a two burner stove… I made curtains and went with buffalo plaid. Red and black. I do hope you will enjoy your little bit of heaven as I do.

@Patti yes her Dad Shawn is as tough as they come been watching his channel many years. I’d say 4-6 years now I have lost count, I started watching Shawn when he first broke ground on the first cabin he built on KZbin. I think by the time I found his channel he already was on the 3rd video building that last cabin. So I only had to go back and watch 2 other videos. It’s hard to believe that his channel grew in 3 years to over 1 million subscribers. I been watching KZbin since it began in 2004 or 2005 & that usually never happens is a channel goes over 1 million in that short of time. Many channels never get to 100,000 subs in many years, but Shawn is a extraordinary person. Now Shawn has more subs than that I think, but people love to see someone build log cabins the old Fashioned way. It’s like a step back in time and a glimpse of what the life of the first pioneers was like. So happy to read your comment that you got yourself a little cabin I’m sure you dearly enjoy that. Also those Amish are master craftsmen and if you bought one they built I’m sure it’s very well built. I’ve seen the buildings and cabins they build and they’re very well made. One thing about it : Anything you buy that’s Amish made, you can bet it’s of the tip top shelf best quality. 😁👍

Oh sweetheart it's so good to see how far you have come with your cabin. I am so happy for you & proud of you. Ik your mom & dad are proud also. I am old now, and I did not know half the things you do when I was your age, even tho I left home at 17 y/o! But I learned as I went thru life. You're grounded in life at such a young age & that comes from good parenting. I have faith you will go far in life and just remember: You can do & accomplish anything you want to do, if you want it bad enough, & set you mind to it! Anything!!!! Nice start to the inside of the cabin. That couch color is perfect! Never thought to dehydrate frozen fruit. Always did it with fresh fruit. Working from frozen would let you do it all year. Never to old to learn a new trick!

Emily, dogsledding looks like a lot of fun. I had a supervisor years ago that participated in Iditarod in Alaska. He was an outdoorsman, and rode bike just about anywhere he went local, regardless of the weather. The cabin is looking good. I wish you success in your endeavors there.

Emily, how about a couple kerosene wall accent lamps with brass trim. Always nice to have back-up lighting that gives a touch of elegance. Be sure they have backing plates to reflect the light if you decide to get those. Cabin is coming along beautifully.

How beautiful of a trail for dog sledding! That's something I've never done & it isn't something that's really done or offered here in the lower states of America. I have no doubt that Alaska offers that but Ik Ohio doesn't & would love someday to do that. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
