We moved from Bristol to Winnipeg 4 years ago. We have a nicer house in a more pleasant area than we could ever have afforded in Bristol. Winters are much colder of course, but also much sunnier, which lifts the spirits compared with damp, grey British winters. Summers here are both warmer and sunnier. People from other parts of Canada can be as rude as they like about Winnipeg. Hopefully when they do, that will keep the house prices here relatively affordable so our daughter will be able to afford to buy a place here one day.

I live in Hamilton now, but I lived in Toronto most of my life. I was blown away by how awesome Winnipeg was when we visited a year ago - between the chill vibes, the zoo and museums, along with day trips away from the city, there's a lot to love, and I look forward to the chance to visit again. That said, when I tell people how awesome Winnipeg is, no one believes me (though the same is true for my adopted hometown of Hamilton!).

Hamilton is awesome for parks, food, and 2nd hand shopping. Ppl just give it a bad reputation bc it's mostly a working class/factory worker city, and bc there are homeless people (like 99% of Canadian cities, not the suburbs though). It's classist. But the city is definitely up and coming. I'm from Oakville, and moved out of the country, but I would have moved to Hamilton in a heartbeat if I stuck around.

The people make it, but the city and everything we have going on in it is pretty amazing. The worst thing is the weather in winter but it’s not -40 the whole time and there’s lots of ways to still enjoy the outdoors. I’m proud AF to live here. And because of the high standard of living and low costs, my husband and I bought 2 acres just outside the city to build our dream house and we’re 35! So yeah, I love it here and I’m here for keeps

Hundreds of businesses shutting down in the past year, 7/11's shutting down because of insane rates of theft and robbery (so much for being the slurpee capital) and ravaging homeless who leave the streets a complete trash bin with clothes, garbage, food, amongst other things all over the road... So much for helping the homeless when they throw it on the sidewalk. I wouldn't be thanking anyone for visiting Winnipeg, I'd be asking what went wrong for that individual to think, of all places in Canada, that Winnipeg was the destination. I'm a Winnipegger myself, I love my home, home is Winnipeg, but if I was given the chance to move anywhere in Canada, it would never be Winnipeg.

@@sameold5050 "Winnipeg is a dump"? It depends on where you are. Main Street is well known for it's SRO (single room occupancy) hotels and low quality drinking establishments. Recently there have been more druggies downtown because of fentanyl. Facts are facts. But if you get away from downtown and look at where most Winnipeggers actually live, you'll see The 'Peg is a beautiful place: One great city. For one thing, people can actually afford their own houses. That means most places are owned by their occupants, not by a landlord and not controlled by a 'strata' committee or HOA. People are free to decorate their places any way they like. Go on StreetView and have a look at neighbourhoods like Woolseley where people have turned their entire front yards into flower gardens. You can't do that in Vancouver or Calgary! Then have a look at all the beautiful shade trees lining every street. Pulitzer Prize winner and dual American-Canadian citizen Carol Shields described them as reaching across in a loving embrace. It makes Calgary look denuded in comparison.

I moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, when I was 33, some 30 years ago. Every year I love it more. It is the gateway to the incredible wilderness that constitutes much of the province. I have been to other cities and provinces and I'm always glad to get back here. Also: learned how to ski and skate as well as kayak, and now own a property with 4 acres. Winnipeg has been good to me, it's great to see someone else with the same perspective!!!!!!

Hey Karl, welcome to Winnipeg. We are in a pretty great city, it’s indisputable - but those trips to London, which I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy a few times, are truly to the best city on earth, you’re lucky to be able to get back there regularly!

Great video. Lake country is a big part of living in Manitoba for sure! And awesome summers! I was on a project there 20 years ago travelling every week with others from Toronto, Vancouver, LA, and Texas, and we’d eat out at all the great Winnipeg spots (529 being one of the favourites)…they were all so amazed at not only the quality of food, but the diversity of restaurants (a Korean spot was also a favourite). And yes, because we were right downtown, we did experience -40 at portage and main. But it reality it’s such a short period of time that happens and doesn’t take away from how great Winnipeg can be. Thanks for sharing!

As a Calgarian, many of my peeps from Manitoba and Winnipeg are stalwarts and absolute saviours when people around here get their vehicles stuck in the snow (when they aren't laughing)... I am jealous of Winnipeg's snow removal program (it's the best of the best). Please keep your mosquitos. Love yas.

Fantastic that you love Winnipeg ... In addition to friendly people, it has beautifully maintained parks such as Assiniboine Park, Kildonan Park, St. Vital Park. Great golf courses, cross country ski trails. Wonderful arts scene including painters, potters, musicians, and Manitoba Theatre Centre, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra and Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, and so much more...

Thank you SO much for speaking so well of my city. My great, great grandparents and great grandparents came here from Yorkshire and Devonshire around 1879, and we have BUILT our communities over years. It is all getting more developed, more people are coming, and we are expanding! You also don't have to park your cars on hills, like in Vancouver, where they can roll down and crash in the winter! A very warm welcome to you! Thank you for loving one of our people! If I ever see you two around, I'll definitely say hello! ☺️
