I have to say the first time I used a tent I had no experience and my tent fell over several times. So, I am glad that the other vendors were supportive of me and helped me out.

If they’d of apologized at all, I’d have been more supportive. To be defensive and not apologize for the dangerous situation and damage they did to my neighbors tent was wrong. And we did give them extra weights and extra stakes. And they asked us if we wanted them back at the end of the day. Not thank you for letting them use them. They said do you want these back… 🤦🏼‍♀️

Just found your channel, as I'm a painter who started doing fairs last year. I think sandbags are the absolute minimum that you should have for tents, for sure. 40lbs. each pole at.a minimum. They can be unwieldy and a pain to move, but its worth it.

I don't have a tent yet. I want to wait until I've earned a little more so I can buy it with my proceeds instead of out of house funds. However, I'm so grateful for you guys explaining how things work with them. I'll definetly be looking into sand bags when I get one.

If you are a legitimate business you can take a loan from yourself and then pay back the loan.

There is a tent I recommend in my storefront that has a steel frame, comes with tent walls and the weight bags

My Mum does makrets here in australia and my dad always puts 25liter water tanks on all legs and pegs them down. if he cant peg them them its 2 25liter tanks per leg. that way he can empty out the water before they leave and in an emergency they have extra water on hand.

I'm with you tent weights be it sandbag or water weights are great. We use a 12 inch stake as well on ours because we have seen the same happen and Ben is so right when you hit a rock its either move it or move the leg lol. We were at an event last year and an EF1 tornado hit. Tents were flying we were extremely lucky that ours did not because of this. Great info as always.

You probably already know this tip but for anyone in the comments who doesn’t - wet wash cloths, not like soaking just dampen them and put them in ziplock bags in your cooler and then put them on the back of your neck when you’re at the super hot outdoor shows! I am heat intolerant, like I cannot hang in high heat situations but this makes it so much more tolerable!

I was vending at a show with a brand new assistant coordinator. The show had a different musician each week and the show provided the tent for the music. Show ended, musician packed his guitar and such and left. Assistant came over unhooked the weights from the tent and walked away. It was a very high wind day and several of us yelled to get her back. She either didn't hear or didn't care. About a minute later that tent was rolling end for end like a tumbleweed in an old Western with half the people left chasing it down. It flew right over a six foot chain link fence and they grabbed it inches before it hit the highway. We never saw the assistant again. My tent is weighted and once it got so bad that even with 50pounds on each corner we tied down to my chair and added my weight. Made selling a bit awkward but nothing got hurt.
