Or you adopt.. like Taihou here did when she was Imperial Noble Consort Zhen Huan and Hongli was grateful since he’d be dead or starved to death or else if she hadn’t cared to get him.. OR You prop up a stupid child you can kinda control, and have spies around to protect yourself and Imperial interests, like Empress Dowager CiXi until they all wanted to kill her and then she killed them first.
