Knife Story: After getting my first FT job, I bought a Victorinox Explorer Swiss Army Knife. This was in 1985. The next shift at work I was showing it to my co-workers. My boss (first class jerk and male Karen) said, "You think that's a Knife." Proceeds to open a case that had the ultimate Victorinox Knife...with every tool/blade available. Yeah I was embarrassed. But his Knife wasn't pocket or even belt pouch friendly. Over the years I have very seriously considered buying that huge Knife. But never did so. I remained faithful to my Victorinox Explorer. 37 years later my Explorer and Victorinox Classic are my two go to knives. When I need something sturdier I use a Buck Lock Blade folding hunter. Cost for these 3 useful knives less than $175. About half of my jerk boss' fancy unusable knife. (Today's money)

My first boss at my first job relayed to me a couple brief stories about a girl he hired years before I joined the staff. In a paint retail store with a LOT of 5-gallon buckets of paint for (mostly) contractors, this woman that was about the same weight as I was in 9th grade, which was thin and a tad lanky. This girl was described to me as a BEAST. Back when every store had a delivery truck, this girl was occasionally delivering contractor orders to job sites. She was regularly offloading several to a couple dozen 5-gallon buckets single-handedly, dealing with the usual sexist garbage like catcalling, ignored it, and did her job like the boss she was. I wanted SO badly to have been able to meet her. I always respect people that can make my 150-pound-ass look like a weakling in comparison, not to mention the, sadly, still prominent issues of just being a woman around annoying men she dealt with. The story from the store manager about the karen demanding a man to take care of her order when she was already the most knowledgeable person there.

1:39:34 You do have to be careful about being annoyingly compliant like this though. If your boss wants you to mark every single thing and let them know exactly what you're doing every second of every day, and you do it with malicious compliance, they may actually start to see you as even less human than they already do, and their insanity will get even worse. Even though they told you to do those annoying and pointless things, they'll just add that as a list of the reasons why everything is out to get them, even though they literally did it to themselves, and treat you even worse for it.

I used to work for a major department store with a small coin in the name. Part of my job was to destroy returns, including perfectly good winter coats. I had to have someone from store security to witness the "mass destruction," and we would both angered and discussed with the destroying everything and realizing how much homeless shelters would benefit.

About the knife, well, when i was in the boyscouts the first badge i earned was the knife badge. This showed that i was competant on how to use a knife, keep it sharp, know the law about blade sizes, appropriate times and places to use it. There are laws about carrying knives in the UK, but my knife carrying breaks none of those conditions. I still use it every day and have done so for 63 years.

I want to add something to this paint department managers' story... I dont know about US based home improvement stores but here in my country, Germany, all employees have a superskill .. You turn around on your heels and they vanish - no exception. I remember waiting in the ceramic tiles department to ask about a toolset to cover the bath tubes maintenance access. The entire tub was placed in a polystyrene foam base - and it had a sideways part that could be removed to access the drain pipes for maintenance. So I was kinda waiting in line to question a store employee who was helping a lady. I just turned around to look where my parents and grandparents were - turned back and the employee was gone. I started looking for him - but I swear he had to have used a trapdoor (not that I know they had one) . He was gone for good and we had to visit an information point and request help from another employee. But the initial guy never reappeared while we were in that store that day. On the other hand I really don't care who helps me. I trust that everybody except apprentices / trainees and interns know their department better than I as a shopper. The lady in the story is sooo ridiculous.. even her husband laughed about her stupidity

18:06 If you cut back on the sugar you'll find out you're incontinence, or excessive vacating of your bladder goes away (in most cases). Water follow sugar you're supposed to have less than 25g of sugar a day.! Figure out how much you're having in your diet. I think you'll find out that's where your problem is! Now that 25 g of sugar also includes all the sugar in your fruit all the sugar in your breads, pastas and then use those and what you add to any coffee, tea or any found in your soda. Be sure to check the back of your milk or milk replacement...you'll probably find sugar there too. Give it a try see how much sugar you're really consuming over that 25 g... It's not only making you incontinent it's killing you, it's giving you a flat fatty liver and diabetes. It can also lead to strokes it just starts with incontinence! Good luck!

The problem with managers is they often don't get how things work around the areas they're managing. Like if the workers who've been on the job for many years have figured out a way to be faster and more effective, the managers will often complain and harass the workers for "not doing it right" or "not following company guidelines", then they throw threats around, cause the whole system to become massively inefficient, and then blame the workers for the poor results despite their own meddling.

When I was in my 20s I worked in a computer retail store. Our 2IC was a lady in her 30s who was a mother and managed in a very motherly way. She was awesome. She also used to work for Apple tech support before having kids, so she knew everything about everything. As 2IC she would get a bonus based on our commissions. Soon after I started I saw a customer ask her is she could get someone who knew about networking (this was the 90s). She was the resident expert on networking but instead she got me to help the customer and then told me she would be in her office. I tried to help the customer but didn't know much about networking so went to her office to ask the 2IC. I asked her why she didn't help the customer and she replied that most customers expect a young nerdy guy to be experts not a middle aged mom.. Also I could do with some commission. Fun times.

Regarding trash being legal for anyone to take, while this is largely true for trash on a public street, trash in dumpsters on private property is a different matter, and persons taking without authorization may be guilty of trespassing or theft. While it’s questionable whether anyone would be legally changed or convicted, an employer could certainly fire an employee for cause, if they so chose.
