Been my favorite band since 2007. I think that Rick Beato has given the band some well deserved recognition recently.

I was just saying to a mate the other day, I doubt very much we'll see the likes of Karnivool, Cog, Dead Letter Circus, Twelve Foot Ninja (who are on indefinite hiatus) etc pursuing the full album-tour-album-tour cycle again. They are different people now, and that was a freak era that will probably never return. It's deeply sad, because they are some of my favourite bands ON THE PLANET.

Bro. You took the words right out of my mouth.

Bro what the hell happened to Dead Letter Circus? Been scouring google, their official websites, everything and I haven't found any info on plans for future. Their website still refers to the "new" album which is what, 5 years old now? Are they done or what?
@Roddrummer10 ай бұрын
@@nurplepain3636i know the guys pretty well. I was talking to Clint last year, he said they were completely burnt out, and needed a long break. They’re not dead and buried, but like I said above, I doubt we’ll see them at full throttle like they used to be.

@@Roddrummer thanks for the info mate! Gives me hope that another album is possible at least then. Was worried they had officially disbanded.

@@nurplepain3636 I honestly doubt we'll see (hear) another album. We may get some live shows and maybe a new single here and there, but a full album is unlikely. Hope they prove me wrong.

Nobody ever talks about this band. Sound Awake should have put them right up there with the modern prog royalty, they sell out a tour whenever they fly out of Australia, yet they don't seem to be on anyone's radar. Such a shame honestly

My expectation is that they release a single every 1 to 3 years, much like what Cog / The Occupants have done (I think they're up to 9 tracks released as singles between the two band names).

Bro I've been waiting for a follow-up to Asymmetry for over a decade :((( Sound Awake is tied with Lateralus for best modern prog metal/rock album, possibly best ever alongside Dark Side of the Moon.

@@Quantum_Zebra Don’t get me wrong, I love Karnivool. The Sound Awake album is a masterpiece. I would say they’re heavily influenced by Tool, but I wouldn’t say they’re as good. Tool made their own genre. The writing is genius. Danny Carey is in a league of his own. Haha Just my opinion. I do love Ian Kenny though. Maynard is just much better to me.

Sound Awake is 1b to Lateralus 1a. I'd put Themata up against Aenima, as well. Tool is easily the stronger band but damned if Karnivool didn't come close. @@MrDevior

@@Quantum_Zebra It may be because I’m a drummer and Aenima and Lateralus taught me how to play drums when I was a kid. We may disagree about a few things, but well said about Karnivool and both bands are extremely talented!

I thought Assymetry was a bit of a mess. Asymmetric, if you will. At least they tend to mix it up so I’m always keen to see what comes next. I do wonder how they make ends meet though, I hope the reason for the holdup isn’t because their manager at Maccas won’t give them enough time off

I love Karnivool, i am from their hometown. sorry, to say or even think that they are remotely near 'the second biggest prog band in the world' is laughable. not even close. Somewhere in the top 50, maybe even top 25 would be a realistic thing to say.

@PanasonicTooth5 ай бұрын
I love Karnivool, but just like with Cog (the other kings of Aussie "prog rock") The newer tracks released don't truly thrill me. For example, "All It Takes". The whole song is pretty solid but the vocal melody in the verses feel lame as hell which ultimately spoils the song from becoming GREAT to me, and I find myself asking every time I hear it "Really, 10 years in the making, meticulously slaving over song structure etc, and this is what you guys have arrived at as the best option for the verse?" I've had a few years now for it to settle with me but I feel the same way I always did about it. I know it'll be an unpopular opinion but I'm just being honest.
