The guitars under the lyric "Star blind at the Sun..." are absolutely all-time. Big ringing, gnarly arpeggiated chords FTW. It's both beautiful and nasty at the same time.

In your own state of mind All you fear now is won a conscious world will spin you in and out of time Lend your breath to broken sail Hands up in my blunted nail Rolling water, suck her free Surely I can make you feel.. What I'm feeling, falling in Comfort bleeds a swollen mend In the secrecy that is to lie Knowing in failure, will I forge the wrong sound? Soon I see what they mean Living this fallacy Promised heaven, I concede. Dead, what I'm feeling, falling in Comfort bleeds a swollen mend In the secrecy that is to lie Stare blind at the sun, feel the warmth in your eyes With you in mind, with you in time Stare blind at the sun, feel the warmth in your head Dead, what I'm feeling, falling in Comfort bleeds a swollen mend In the secrecy that it's to lie That is to lie Stare blind at the sun, feel the warmth in your eyes With you in mind, with you in time Stare blind at the sun, feel the warmth in your head Stare blind at the sun, feel the warmth in your eyes With you in mind, with you in time Stare blind at the sun, feel the warmth in your head Stare blind at the sun, feel the warmth in your eyes With you in mind, yeah with you in time Stare blind at the sun, feel the warmth in your head

i honestly cannot believe people havent checked this kind of music out more often, especially karnivool. they are better then honestly anything on the radio or any pop music shit. and im 17, it just seems so hopeless when you see how people are listening to mindless hip hop...i just feel somehow we need to save music. otherwise these next generations wont have this to listen to and they wont know the emotion or the intelligence behind it. somehow we have to save music,,

Not placed properly, performed properly. Look at black water park by Opeth. Not one word of clean vocals and it’s one of the greatest vocal performances in metal

Their music is awesome just the way it is, but to be honest I think that experimenting with fair to midland or katatonia like background screams/growls wouldn't be bad at all on some songs.

For a long time I actually thought the lyrics were "Stare back at the sun, feel the warmth in your eyes. We feel it burn, we feel it dying", but turns out it's actually "Stare blind at the sun, feel the warmth in your eyes. With you in mind, with you in time". Meh, I like my version better.
@StiTchEvidence7 жыл бұрын
Tad late, but...let's be brutally honest. The whole "prog/djent" scene featuring these folks, Tesseract, Periphery....have shit lyrics steeped in pretentiousness. Good thing the music is better and the vocals blend in as an instrument.
@JurgenBlitz7 жыл бұрын
While you are not exactly wrong, I don´t think it´s exclusive to the djent scene. I mean, if I got a dollar for every time a tharsh/death band had sung a line like "feel my righteous vengeance" or stuff like that, I could buy KZbin. Every scene has its own vices and recurring themes, it´s just that djent tends to go to existencialism. But I´d take that over "murder and blood because reasons" any time.
@OMGWTFBBQ10907 жыл бұрын
I'm fairly sure I've read a few times Karnivool don't recommend reading into the lyrics, so your approach of viewing them as an instrument adding a bit more colour to the music is probably how they intend.

@@DaryoGoinden 🙄 K… I guess we can just pretend that musicians don’t let their influences rub off on their songwriting. Of course they have a great original sound. I was mostly referring to guitar tones in this particular song. Learn not to make demands of people speaking their minds. 🫤

The intro is in 5 times 3 + one 4, which is 19/4 altogether, but it would be a bit overcomplicated to put it this way. It's definitely 6 times 3 with one extra quarternote at the very end.
