How I Unclog My Edible Printer Head

Hey guys!
In this video, I show you how I unclog my printer head for my edible printer.
All tester pages are printed on regular paper, don't waste your edible ink sheets on this!
I forgot to mention that you can run the program on the printer to clean it before you remove it and do it manually. But I find that doing that wastes ink and I prefer to do it this way.

Just cleaned my printer for the first time! Because I haven’t used in a while was messy and I thought it was clean and printed and it was still not cleaned all out so had to do it again. And it worked. No more clogs I rather just change the ink and not clean. Lol Thank You for great tutorial.

Yeah it's super annoying when you get a clog! It's much easier to set an alarm in your phone to remind you to print tester pages. It's my least favorite part of having the printer system LOL

I’m going to give this a try I pray this works moving forward. I’ve never used the cleaning solution. I’m hoping my printhead isn’t too clogged, being that my new printer isn’t even a yr old 😢

Oh no! Try running the hot water through each of the channels for a while. Sometimes I do it for like 20 minutes to clear a clog.

I personally don't find that necessary. I take a paper towel and get it into a little point so I can get into all the crevices and get it completely dry.

I really just do it when it's not printing correctly. But if you keep up with the weekly tester pages, I find that it helps to prevent the clogs! (They still could happen, but not often.)

How often does this have to be done ? I just got new cartridges a few weeks ago and did a clean and it was printing fine now I have lines through my black so just wondering if once a month this needs to be done ?

I only do it when I'm having issues. I print religiously a few times per week, so I haven't had a lot of printing issues recently. Sometimes the ink can build up around the sponge opening causing the lines. Check the black cartridge...take it out and turn it upside down and see if there is buildup around the opening?

So my printer has a cleaning option when you go to settings and maintenance settings where it checks for clogs and it has cleaning and deep cleaning options where it cleans itself. I have a canon pixma ts702a. Would you say that isn't a very dependable way to clean the heads?

No you must have a completely separate printer that never had toxic ink running through it. There could still be toxic ink residue in there and someone could eat that and get really sick.

hey there! if you were planning ahead of time for your edible ink printer to be stored and not used, is there a way you would recommend preparing it to sit for a few months so that the ink doesn't dry up and clog the print heads? i really only use mine a few times a year but still save a ton of money by owning one rather than having to outsource printing every time for big projects! being able to store the cartridges and prep the printer for storage so that i don't waste materials would be a life saver!!!

I would completely clean the print head like I do in this video. However, I'm not sure the cartridges will last once you open them. You can put the orange clips back on them and store them wrapped in plastic and in an airtight container. But they may still dry out. I never have done this, so I'm not 100% sure what to recommend. I recommend asking the company where you bought the printer for further insight!

Just an hour or so! I also use a paper towel to get in the small cracks to make sure it’s completely dry!

I have a Canon TS702 now. Any Canon printer is what I'd recommend as the print heads are easily removable for maintenance.

I need help! I bought a nee printer just for edible images. I got everything set up and first few prints were beautiful, but very quickly the purple has turned grey. I cleaned the print head, I refilled the cartridges and still full and grey! What am I doing wrong!!

Ugh it's the worst when it doesn't go right! Did you get your supplies from Icing Images? If so, they have wonderful customer service and can help you troubleshoot any issues!

Think its possible for printer to stay ok, if you clean printhead and leave it with no cartridges ?! So it sits there with no ink in it. I got one awhile ago but stopped using it so now i kinda just wanna have it sit cleaned out but not sure if it will still work again 😂

Yes! If I know I'll be away for a while, I will clean the print head and put that back in the printer without the cartridges. I will put the clips (that came with the cartridges) back on them, then wrap them in plastic wrap and store them in a ziplock bag until I'm ready to print again.

To be honest, I end up cleaning the print head about once per month. The edible ink clogs faster than regular ink and as soon as I find the colors starting to fade, I will clean it to prevent a big clog!

Does anyone know what’s wrong with my printer I have cleaned the printer head all clear water coming out of each color. My magenta won’t come out barely at all and has lines I’m so confused because ink was just filled so it’s not that print head is as clean as I can get it! Magenta is flowing very well when plug is removed from cartridge! HELP!!

I'm so confused. I can print and everything looks good except my pink and purple tend to look red or darker pink. Would that mean my head is clogged? I've just ordered a different kind of ink to see if it's the ink. Have you had problems with pink and purple?

I normally use it at least once a week. I have ordered a different brand of ink. I didn't make any changes to the print settings. Did you change yours? My settings could be wrong and on the default settings. I will check to make sure the sponges are flowing but normally they are when I refill them. I always fight to get the case to snap down.

No, there will still be some ink in the printer so it's recommended that you use a completely separate printer that was never used before for your edible printer.

So, I think I ruined my last printer when cleaning the print head...don't know if it was just so clogged that it couldn't be fixed or maybe I touched some of the electronic parts while cleaning. It is now time to clean my new one. I see that it is not imperative to keep the electronic parts from getting wet which is what I think I was trying to do before, just don't touch with your hands. Are there cartridges that you insert that clean the printer? If so, I wouldn't use those because the cleaner most likely isn't food safe and will have toxic chemicals in it.

Has anyone ran into the issue of no water spraying through the other side in one color? Not sure what happens the first couple times was coming through just great then BAM it’s just slightly dripping out instead of spraying.

With these edible printers, the print head can easily get clogged if you're not printing weekly. I had a clog so bad one time that I had to get an entirely new printer because I couldn't clear the clog.

I would recommend putting it in front of a fan rather than using your mouth to dry it. 😊

Hello I unclog my printer the picture is red and blue when I ran my test page it came out half way red and blue so i did another one and it came out light blue and the red was gone when I did a black and white picture it lines in that one but I can see the pic please help lol

Oh no! Sounds like you have a stubborn clog. Mine wasn't printing red the other day. I had to run hot water through the magenta port for like 20 minutes to unclog it! Put that tap water on super hot and just let it run through each of the ports to help clear it all out.

So weird, I thought I replied to this. So forgive me if this is a repeat. I dry my print head really well with a paper towel (I get it into a point and get into all the little crevices) so I don't have to let it sit to completely dry. You must make sure all parts are dry before you put it back!
