So, I thought I'd put this to the test and see if how it works. I first used it on an aluminum 10" x 3" cake tin. I intentionally filled the tin 3/4 full to make sure when baked it was the full height. I also used the remaining batter and greased a 8" x 2" Williams Sonoma pan (my normal pan I use). It took forever to bake that huge 10 inch cake by the way! Anyway, once baked I set a timer for three minutes. I then turned them directly out onto plastic wrap to put in the freezer. THE VERDICT: Game changer! There was absolutley no hint of sticking at all. They both came out beautifully. Goodbye parchment paper! Goodbye pan spray! Goodbye flowering pans. Easy to make and works great. Thanks for sharing Karolyn:-)

Oh my! This brought back memories. I was a school lunch lady for 27 years with most of those being in the baking department. This pan grease is a lifesaver. So much easier to just brush this on instead of greasing and flouring and cheaper and better than sprays. Glad you shared this! I just started watching you and I love that you take your time and really explain what you're doing. Beautiful cakes!

Can't wait to use my pan grease! Took like 5 mins to make, and that's with measuring the ingredients, and putting it in a air tight container, and rinsing the dishes. If the amount of ease that just went into making this pan grease, is also in using it, and turning out the cakes, this will be amazing! Thank you Karolyns Kakes for sharing. I have seen other bakers talk about a Pan Grease or "Cake Grease" or what ever they called it, but they never said where they got it. So thank you so much for sharing this with us. Have 3 cakes coming up with in the next week, so I am excited to try it. And the time it took to make it (prep work) will save times of time.

Yes! Keep it in an airtight container. No need to refrigerate it because there's nothing perishable in this. I would say it will last about a month, if not more. You may have to mix it if you don't use it for a while because the oil sometimes separates.

Hello. I live in South Africa Pretoria. What is lard? And what can I use if I don't have it?

Hi Naomi! Hmmm, I'm not too sure what you could get there that would be a good substitute. Have you tried to butter and flour the cake pans?

Crisco is vegetable shortening. I have heard you can use margarine as a substitute for the shortening but I never have so I don’t have experience with that.

Do you use your pan grease for your pound cake recipes? I’ve used someone else’s recipe in the past that I absolutely did not like because my pound cakes and layer cakes both stuck so I just went back to my Baker’s joy.

@@KarolynsKakes As you already know, your cake pan released work like a charm. I baked 2 layers of your chocolate cake and 2 layers of your vanilla cake recipe and none of them stuck. I was so impressed. Now I need to trust that my pound cakes won’t stick either.

@KarolynsKakes
@KarolynsKakes 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure that this will work if you don't have shortening as I have never done this without it. You may have to go the traditional route of buttering and flouring the pan.

Oh no! You may not have brushed enough of it on the pan. Also it needs to cool about 5 minutes before you remove it.

I’ve watched numerous videos on this channel and it’s very frustrating when you say things like” I just eyeball it”, “ your measurements don’t have to be exact”, “ this is just the way I do it”. What’s the purpose of teaching people to bake, when you don’t give us specific measurements? You set us up for failure.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to confuse you. As a general guide, you can do equal amounts of the oil, flour and shortening. After you mix it, if you find it to be too runny, add more flour 1/4 cup at a time until it gets to a thicker consistency. If it's too thick, add 1/4 cup vegetable oil at a time until it thins out a little. I hope that helps!
