Karrakatoa is a black descent that makes its way east after you head down the back side of the main hill from 'the roost' carpark at the Murray Valley Trails near Dwellingup, WA. It runs roughly parallel to Inzamia, which is equally (if not more) fun but is a lot more difficult, hence the black rating. While it is rated advanced, Karrakatoa is not super crazy and experienced riders should find it no trouble. This was my first run down and I didn't try to hit all of the jumps clean and instead chose to keep it low and safe. If you knew the trail well and are a confident jumper, you could definitely gap between lots of the rollers on the lowers sections of the trail. The most intimidating part is the steep rocky section which comes after a fairly flat opening. As always, this is way steeper than it looks on a GoPro, but if you point it straight and let it rolll it is pretty easy to get down intact. Overall I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this trail and will definitely hit it again the next time I am in the area.
