Funnily enough the Americans hold only one of the short distances world records at the moment (Aries Merritt in 110 meters hurdles).The remaining distances 100 & 200 meters (Bolt), 400 metres (van Niekerk) and 400 meters hurldes (Warholm ) belong to athletes from other countries. I didn't include the 60 meters in this equation on purpose because it isn't an Olympic event.

The athletes that peak too early are generally the NCAA athletes and that's just from too many races. Warholm seems to just be getting started! Plus he ran that race with a headwind in the home straight when pure calm is best for 400mH.

@@decaDBZ It's the TRACK EVENT of the Olympics..The only thing that could steal its shine. Is Bromell winning the 100M with a sub 9.70 time going clear 2nd of alltime. Which is possible. But other than that. This is the real blue ribbon event in Tokyo. And I'm sure the world record is going again. Benjamin needs to press hard. And we will see what happens.

This reminds me of the 400m WR. At the end of that race, Kirani James was closing on van Niekerk, just like Dos Santos here was closing on Warholm. But with the strength of a thousand lions, both broke free from all challengers and entered a realm of their own, breaking the world record.

@Sean You're dead right. I guess I was lucky enough to see Moses and the effect he had on the sport. In a modest kind of way he affected the 400m hurdles in the same way that Bolt came to dominate sprinting. I think that if someone ever beats Usain's 100m record it won't necessarily eclipse his status as the greatest sprinter ever.

In our country a soft drink brand "thumbs up" is promoting our athletes in an ad, referring to athletes thay says "whoever went against u, didn't believe in u, told ur father to change his oponion, thought that u wouldn't be able to get even a single medal....turn them upside down" It was so inspiring that we won 5 medal and stand at 65th position overall...being dramatic never helps apparantly!

Warholm has to be the best athlete of his generation. He’s already the greatest hurdler ever - but all of his achievements, resilience, hard work and competition with himself after breaking his personal bests so many times this year and winning the 2020 Olympics gold with an epic performance - he deserves another gold 😃
